My 1.2 SX Bravo [1999] has very light steering, I drove on Hols a punto, if you put it into City mode it behaves a bit like my Bravo steering wise, if any one has driven a new Clio with electric steering you know what I mean.
It is so light and twitchy, just wondered if this is normal.
thanx

I used to drive a merea which had very light steering, FIAT told me that this was normal, but I am still not sure... it was 1998 reg. I drove a brava as well, which had not so light steering, I don't think that there is any consistancy to it, that was R (98) reg as well?

do ya think it might have something to do with steering rack oil, can you get differant grades like you can with engine/gearbox oil.
I mean it doesn't really pose a problem, just catches you out sometimes. :D

The steering on my P97 Marea 20v is also very light. It felt like I was driving a go kart until I got used to it, I think the fact that it only has 2.5 turns between full locks also adds to the general 'twichy' feel.

Don't think you can get differend grades of fluid like oil, more like different qualities like brake fluid, e.g. DOT 3/4, but I may be wrong;)

tyre pressure would also have an effect, too high and it will get light and twitchy. I upped mine to 34 PSI when I went on a weekend away with 3 mates and loads of kit (beer), and forgot to reduce it after, parking was easy but it didn't feel as happy in corners as usual.

Mine seems to have got lighter recently too but the tyre pressures are unchanged.

However, according to the blurb in the Sales Guide the Bravo has variable assistance PAS. Therefore, is this sensor driven and could there be a fault with it i.e. is it getting stuck in the "Slow road speed" setting?

Blood hell not more sensors too go wrong!!! had trackin set as it was pulling slightly but the wheel chapie said that the front wheels where pulling in oposite directions. not helped light steering but it is no where near as vauge now, so things are getting better.

But loved

Sad eh! but it's Italian; it leaves scabby saxos standing

Drove her for over 2 weeks now, steering is still quite light (it'll never change) but it does not dance around the road now even in the wet.
Driver’s tyre was toeing out rather a lot.
Passenger tyre was toeing in a bit.
So she must have been struggling just to keep in a straight line “shame”

So I think we are sorted on this 1
thanx
