I have a Bravo 80 SX on a W plate can any one tell me if its is OBD2 compliant and does it have the 16 pin plug under dash, you might be thinking "go and have a look" but the car is having the headgasket done and i was going to have a tinker when i get it back.
If so does anyone no of some software and cable sites to link up my laptop?:)

Yes it is OBD2 compliant, on the JTD which is also OBD2 compliant, the socket is located under the steering wheel/fusebox.

However im not too certain which programs and tools work 100% with OBD2 compliant systems.

The JTD had is from 1999, so whats the problem. :)

The 1.2 had it from Birth IIRC. If its not i learn something new today. :) However the only Bravos which can be remaped are the JTDs and 1.2s. Therefore it must have one.

simple way to tell proper OBD2 compliance is the presence of an orange "engine symbol" management light in the cluster instead of the red "injector symbol". later 1.2's will have it. an ELM chip based interface should work, with free software, Or get one of the cheapy hand held OBD2 readers..

I dont have an engine symbol, i have the injector symbol. :)

unfortunately the JTD is not OBD2.. almost but not enough. FWIW.. If anyone wants to help me write some software for them.. please feel free to chip in.. I have started work on it but its difficult to get time.. :(

SO what is that socket on mine? I thought it was the ODBII connector. 16pins etc.

Its just the socket.. after a while manufacturers got used to the idea of putting all the diagnostic connections on the one socket for easy access.. so while the engine management comm lines share common pins across many manufacturers to adhere to the 16 pin socket standard, everything else does not. what specific protocol for engine diagnostics were not enforced until 2001 / 2004. everything else was entirely up to the manufacturer..

Hi!

If you've not got a 16 pin in the cabin under the dash there will be several rounded black AMP three-pin FIAT connectors in various places - one will be under the front-centre console for the Airbag, there's another two for the alarm and CODE immobiliser on the driver's side top suspension mounting, plus one more in the engine-bay for the Engine Management ECU - the location of this depends on Engine type!

All these Diagnostic Connectors have two thin wires connected to them, one white with red stripe in the middle (K-Line) and a black at one side (Earth)!

You can buy tackle called Uniscan on eBay that works on any laptop that will diagnose/erase faults on these and it will also reset stuck Airbag Lights!!! (Make sure its V1.83 or later!!!)

If you're good at Electronics you can build a K-Line to Serial Interface on a tiddly bit of PCB and download construction plans for this interface plus Uniscan s/w from assorted places on the internet, but the downloaded versions are all Russian/Cyrillic I'm afraid!

Hope this helps - I'll be buying Uniscan for my car next Payday &'ll report in due course!

Even if you've got a 16-pin hole under your dash (JTD etc.,) cheap readers won't touch it - its just Fiat K-Line Protocol run to a J1962 plug thingy!!!
