I'm back again....

After all your advice re my car failing to start it decided to die completely. Called my breakdown company who sent out a local recovery truck. They hooked my battery to the lorry, started my engine and then he opened my drivers side window (electric). It went down about 5 times the speed that it normally does, which I pointed out to him.

He recommended a new battery, loaded my car onto lorry and we all trundled to the depot. The car came out with a brand new battery....however.....now my drivers side window won't go down. It will go up, but not down. Plus I gained an airbag warning light.

I took the car straight back to them and explained the problem. They looked at it, said it was a coincidence and told me a needed a new 'module' (I have no idea what that is! lol). I took the car away without paying them to fix a problem that I believe they caused.

My question is - could opening the window while hooked to the lorry (bearing in mind the speed it went down) have caused my window to no longer work???

Plus, even with a new battery it took 3 attempts to start my car this morning (very cold again) so I am now utterly confused!!!!

:bang:
Many thanks once again for any help.

they shudnt of conected your car to a truck

you can fry your ECU doing that

that could be why your getting your airbag warning ligh

is your new battery the right voltage/ampage for your car aswell ???

yea its 2 x 12v batterys, and ive heard before that doing that fry's ECU's as alot of people have had problems because of it

Yep trucks run 24V, although some will connect on + and - terminals and each battery, should have connected to + on battery and - on bridge of same battery then you'd be getting 12V.

Batteries could either be two 12V or four 6V.

The Actual Truck Battery Will Be 24 Volts, But Most Have Auxilary 12Volt Battery's For Using On Car's Etc!!!

Did They Use A Plug On There Bumper (Tow Bar Area On A Flat bed) To Connect To Your Car???

If The Battery Had Been Left Flat Could It Not Have Cause The E.C.U To Error???

Yeah....the leads were connected from the tow bar area of a flat bed truck and directly to the terminals on my battery.

My old battery still had some power, but not enough to start the car.

When the chap decided it was best to take the car back to depot, he showed me that my battery was fizzing out the top - surely thats not normal??

The only reason I'm querying the window not working now, is because of the speed it went down when attached to the lorry. It doesn't make any sense to me that the 2 aren't connected.

Thanks again guys!!

No its not normal, that is a sign of overcharging, could be due to the voltage regulator (common thing to go) or its the alternator itself.

The window shooting down at twice the speed seems to me like an overload of power. Check you have the correct battery too.

Check the voltage with the car switched off, the engine on and then the car with most of its electrics on, i.e Headlights, foglights, heated rear window, heaters on full to get a voltage reading.

If the ECU is fried then the cars key code light will be on so will a lot of other faults occur.

I presume the overload fried a wire to the electric window, the airbag light was probably tripped due to the overload and/or a wire got fried. Get the airbag light reset and see how it goes. Test the window wiper switch to see if its a fault to the switch or at the motor.

Many thanks.

The battery was fizzing after being attached to the lorry...same with the window and airbag light.

My Dad is going to check my window for me. My Haines manual should show what to do shouldn't it?

I plan to go back to my breakdown company and explain what happened, so hopefully they'll foot the bill to fix it. Here's hoping!!!!

At least they've put the proper battery in my car! :)

I don`t like the sound of these breakdown companies that call out trucks from local garages. (bound to be a few bad apples)
Hope you get it sorted.

Uno's did suffer with fuel pump problems, it could be that. The motor in the fuel pump (in the tank) used to sieze up. When i worked for Fiat they were about 180 quid.
Hope this helps.
LOL

the window moved so quickly because it was getting too much voltage. that is also why your battery was fizzing. the truck driver is liable for all damaged caused. if your ecu isnt fried you are very lucky.

the window problem may simply be a burnt out relay.

Cheers jug!!!!

Needed someone with knowledge to confirm what I thought before I go back to my breakdown company and go nuts.

Everything else in the cars seems to be ok....so I'm hoping that my ecu has survived intact......
