Hi

I've got a 1.2 16v formula 80. Last winter it didn't particularly like being started in the cold. Needed to go out at 11am today and car would not start at all!! It turn over slowly and then completely give up. The mileage counter has reset itself also.

Is the prob battery related? I put in new NGK spark plugs last week.

Any help will be very much appreciated!!!

:bang:

Batteries are less efficient in cold weather when the heavy demand from the starter is highlighted. Its probably a good idea to go over the battery connections and the battery / body earth, clean them up and add some vaseline once you have re-made the connections. If that fails its time for a new battery as winter will play havoc with the lights being used, heater blower, rear window demister etc.

i agree with Ffoxy it is alworth worth a try to clean the battery teminals before you spend the cash on a new battery.

your battery should have 44ah and 360cca. i bet your cca is lower than 360. have a look on the battery it should say on a sticker.

cca is cold cranking amps, its what you need to start the engine in winter.

its also possible that your battery is the correct spec but it is old. most are only designed to last 3 or 5 years.

I've tried cleaning the terminals and I've also WD40'd them to keep moisture off. Think it may be time to try a new battery.

I shall check the sticker in the morn for the ah/cca - its too wet and cold out to do it now!! lol

Car has been left all day, just tried to start it again now and its not having it all. Turns over less and less each time I try.

try charging the battery, i had the same problem and i found charging the battery helped, if that doesnt help then buy new i guess

Ive been having the same problem lately. Whilst I was turning the engine over, I was slowly pumping on the accelerator, not amazing amounts, but when it connected, it didnt just die on me, it kept going. Not sure if this is anything to do with it, but it was bloody cold! :)

My Bravo had a similar problem a couple of winters back.

I tried starting it up and got..... absolutely nothing.
The battery had literally gone kaput over night!
Probably best to get a new one, and eliminate the most likely cause.
Don't get a battery from Halfrauds they charge well over the odds.
