Hi
Recently on motorway journeys i can feel looseness in the wheel every now and then, could it be the a worn uj? i've checked all the balljoints and they seem fine.

Thanks

it cant be a UJ. it is much more likely to be play in the wishbone bushes or the streeting track rod ends, or both.

if a UJ (or CV joint to the rest of us) was the problem it would not affect the steering track at all. you would expect to hear a clunk when you are in neutral and you select a gear, or a knocking sound when turning sharp right or left, but it would not affect the steering.

Ive found a perished bush on the wishbone, could this be the problem?, the track rods seem ok. The uj i meant was the one at the end of the steering column.

yes, a perished bush allows the trakcing to change, so bacially the car can steer left and right slightly even if the steering wheel does not move.

if it is bad then you may notice it pulls to one side under acceleration, and then the other side under braking.

The uj i meant was the one at the end of the steering column.

if that joint has play you can detect it by wiggling the steering wheel back and forth repeatedly. it will tap tap tap and you will feel no resistance at all between the taps.

Just had both wishbones replaced £89 each fitted ouch!!!! Id of done them myself but needed it quick and dont have any spare time. Got rid of an annoying knocking too though.

just a thought but i had a similar thing with my brava, like the steering wheel lost contact from the nr side wheel for a few secs and it turned out to be the shocks! i'm no machanic but it's somethin to check
