Last night someone broke into the boot of my 1.4s Bravo its and S reg. They didnt steal anything and i cant see that they have done anymore damage apart from pushing the boot to the right so it wouldnt shut. I have now bent it back and it shuts ok. But i now have the following problems -

- The central locking doesnt work but when you press the key fob the indicators flash and the alarm goes off so you can use the key to open the door.

- The immobiliser seems to be stuck on and the car will not start and nothing works wipers, lights, horn. But the radio still works fine

- When i press the hazards button i get nothing except a kind of buzzing crackling sound.

- When i turn the key or the alarm is going off the dials (speedo and oil pressure) start to move up and down.

Any ideas would be much appreciated, my thought was that maybe in breaking into the boot they have shorted something out.

Thanks in advance

carefully check that they have not damaged any wiring when trying to disable the alarm or start the engine, look around the ignition switch, in the fusebox and at the battery. also check they have not caused any shorts in the boot electrics, and that the contacts on the boot are aligned correctly (copper contacts and pins on the car and boot need to touch correctly when boot is shut)

I will go and check the wiring in the boot now, they have not touched any other part of the car and didnt actually try and steal it which was odd and the alarm didnt go off either. It was just the boot that been forced open.

We've tried jump starting the car incase it was the battery but this didnt help.

I have the red key, can that be used to reset anything on the car that may help??

Thanks for the help, when it comes to electrics, alarms etc im a really at a loss. (y)

i think it must be battery. if they only opened the boot then its the only possibility, and a dead battery would explain every symptom.

charge the battery.

Ok none of the wiring in the boot has been touched.

The alarm has now stopped working all together, but the interior light, boot light and radio still all work.

I tried to start the car again, and i get the seatbelt and oil light come up on the dash but thats it. If the battery was flat would i at least hear the starter motor click??

Thanks again

Sorry didnt see the last post, i will take the battery off my sisters car and try that in mine to see what happens.

Cheers

It was the battery, problem sorted

Thanks very much for the help guys
