Hello All,

Problem with clutch on my 1996 Bravo 1.8 HLX.

When the engine is running and I dip the clutch to select a gear, the gear stick is just solid and wont select anything.

When the engine is off, i can select a gear fine but when i start the car with the clutch pedal down, then it stalls cos the gear is engaged, even with the peddle down!!

Theres no visible leaks and the fluid level is fine.

Any ideas please anyone.

Cheers

your clutch is not disengaging. ask an assistant to pump the clutch pedal while you watch the slave cylinder on top of the egabrox. if it is moving and there is no sign of a leak then your problem is the clutch. if it is not moving then the clutch hydraulics are the problem, either the slave cylinder or master cylinder (usually slave).

Hi Jug,

Ive done that, the cylinder is moving. Does that mean it will be the clutch? if so, what are they like to do.

Cheers

also, ive just taken the wheel off and there is some fluid around the gearbox but the level in the resevoir seems to be ok!!!

if slave cylinder is moving ok and the fluid has not dropped noticably i think we can safley say the problem is the clutch.

on my 1.8 bravo i gave up when the multiple bolts holding the near side driveshaft gave me hassle. i paid a garage to do it instead (£100).

haynes suggests it is no more difficult that a usual clutch change, but i was in a hurry tbh. grab a haynes manual and see what you think.
