Thats just Variable Valve Timing, most cars do that.... on the bravo/marea 20v VIS it has a 'gate' on the intake manifold which opens at about 4500rpm to allow more air to flow. the restricted intake is ment to increase torque at lower RPM Ry

They do like resurrecting old technology and giving it a new name. 1985 Croma CHT (Controlled High Turbulence it was called then) had 4 extra throttle butterfly valves, one built into each inlet manifold duct.
