hi i have a fiat brava 1.2 and the last few weeks ive been having problems but ive got rid me most now but im left with one still ,when im driving and im at low revs say just gone into 2nd or 3rd the car will stutter but then go normal once revs have increased and once every journey the temp gauge on the dash goes all the way to the top but then comes back down after a few mins so far i have replaced the lamda an coolant temp sensor

oh sorry i have also cleaned all the throttle body out which was quite dirty,someone said maybe its the temp switch what do you guys reckon it could be cheers

Hi
ive had a ECU diagnostic test last week and two sensors showed up as needed replacing;
1.Lamda sensor (after Cat)---which i have replaced!
2.Temp gauge sensor,which the mechanic told me was the coolant temperature sensor.
So i bought a sensor and replaced it,but have since found out i replaced the wrong one the one i replaced was the ECU coolant temp sensor apparently i should have changed the Coolant temp sensor for the temp gauge
But my problem is ive rang 2 suppliers and they cant find any trace of this other sensor only the one ive already changed but ive been told it deffinatly doe's have 2 coolant temp sensors but i cant find it in the manual either
Does anyone know where on the engine it is so i could take it down
thanks

ah right
thanks jug!
that would explain why they cant find it lol.
What had me was the mechanic as i told him i'd already replaced one for the ecu and he said it was the other that needed doing i think he must have been trying to pull a fast one then!.
Could a old fuel filter cause some stuttering ,im gonna try some cheaper options first like filter and some better plugs.
How much doe's a compression test cost ? and if it failed that whould that mean a new gasket
cheers

fuel filter almost certainly wont be the cause, and on most models can not be replaced anyway. if your model has a replacable filter then why not try it for the sake of £5.

a compression tester costs £10-20, and is easy to use. a loss of compression (= a much lower reading on 1 or more cylinders) would show that the head gasket needed replacing.
