Hi I've been reading old posts for guidance and It has really helped me over the past week, so thank. but I'm now at a loss....

I've got a 98 Bravo 1.4s 12v and It was cutting out at running temp after being left for a while it would start up and get a few miles before doing it again.

I've Done the plugs filter and a bottle of injector cleaner. no change, so yesterday I changed the Crank sensor, which has cured the random cutting out but left me with a new problem, It runs fine in motion but revs drop off and cuts out when sitting idle. the ingition system light is now also on. I've also disconected the battery overnight, then left to sit idol for 5 mins to reset the ECU (i think?).

I am now officially stuck...

thanks for your help, and I hope you can help me now.

idle speed controller could be dead, try a sccrapyard replacement. also try cleaning inside the CFI unit around the butterfly valve.

Thanks for that jug, i've been working to your posts for the past week.
I'll try it out at the weekend.

I didn't mention that it is an intermittent fault some anytime I pull up it may or may not decide to stop. don't know if that makes any difference?

cheers for the help.

I've just unplugged the sensor on the exhaust manifold (lambada?) It seems to have helped a bit? should/would it or is it just a coincident?

Hi mate,

Lambda would cause stalling, but only when the engine is warm. If this also occurs at first start up you could rule out lambda. How much better was it with it disconnected? If it did not stall, it will almost certainly be the problem.

Have you also checked for any vacuum leaks (may have been caused by knocking off a pipe when doing the crank sensor)

Also, does this only happen when breaking? If so this again could be a vacuum problem related to the brake servo.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Hi ,
I ma with jug its the idle actuator (butterfly) but u need to make an activation on it by fiat examiner after changeing it.

Hi All, thanks for your help so far....

Checked the pipes/hoses and they're fine.

you kind of lost me with the idle actuator..where do I find it? what does it look like?

My last car was a 145 2.0 cloverleaf and I didn't dare touch anything under the bonnet. The last mechanical work I did would have been on an old 1275 Mini about 14 years ago, so I'm playing catch-up.

Thanks in advance.

Hi update on the problems..

So I've take the idle actuator off give the contacts a bit of a clean, it seems to be moving freely and when the revs drop it tries to correct. I don't think it is the problem

The Idol problem only started after changing the crank sensor? but it stopped the car for just cutting out when it got to normal temp so it was faulty.

Something else i don't think i mentioned, when I picked the car up after having a new clutch a couple of months ago I was checking oil and water and noticed a disconnected wire, the wire went to a sensor on the front of the exhaust manifold.
is that the lambada?

anyway I plugged it in and did about 700 miles with no problems until the crank sensor?

I've unplugged it again and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

also when I'm driving, if I put my foot down it seems to be holding back but picks up if you give it a bit of welly.

I think It needs to have a diagnostic test, is it something a local garage can do, any idea of the cost?

I'm between Bath and Bristol if anyone can recommend a cheap fiat garage.

Cheers

also, the MOT runs out on the 21st Aug. It went straight through the last 2 but I think it might need a new rear shock and a new bush in the front wishbone. plus the timing belt is overdue.

its probably going to cost £500, not sure if I should just cut my losses? I just spent almost £300 on the clutch.

What's it worth for spare or repair?

FINALLY FIXED IT!!!!!

I checked the Crank sensor again and it hadn't pushed in far enough...

the rubber seal and the plastic spacer had been put on in the wrong order which was stopping it pushing in far enough, so swapped them round, re-fitted and bingo running sweet. no dash lights on..

thanks for all the help.. especially jug.
