it IS always advisable, and I have done for safety for years now, that when youjack up any car to remove a wheel for working on your motor, is if you do , or do not have axle stands, is to use bricks to chock the remaining wheels, and the wheel you remove, slide it under the car (put some wood on ur alloy) for extra peace of mind. At least if this happens again. the car will only drop onto the wheel, thus leaving you to still reposition any jacks or axle stands.
I have seen someone do what you did and he was under the car at the time when it fell on him ! Luckly for him, there were plenty of us to lift the car off him, and we could pull him out from under.
Sure, he was lucky to only gain a few bruises. We now call him slim.
