Hi everyone, just purchased a 2001 bravo with 24000 on the clock.

Its a great car and I love it....(and some cu$t drove into it the day after I bought it!)
apart from the bad fuel economy which after doing some research is definetley linked to the fact that the car seems to want to stall at idle, (8500revs) after it has warmed up. It sometimes does in traffic or reverse and at times when accelerating there is a delay in power.....So I'm thinking it could be to do with the throttle body, lambda probe or maybe the ecu? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance....James

hi, thanks for getting back to me, it is a 1.2 1242cc.

on the 1.2 it is almost always due to a throttlebody fault. first thing to do is disconnect battery, then remove and clean the throttlebody inside (i use WD40) then refit the throttlebody, reconnect the batery, switch igniton on and wait for 90secs, switch igniton off and wait for 90secs, start engine and let it idle for 5 mins. switch engine off, then switch it bakc on and go for a drive. if you still have the problem then its time to try a scrapyard throttle position sensor.

hi, thanks for getting back....I just put the car in this morning to get the panels repaired! I will try doing what you have said when I get the car back and I'll tell you how it goes.....just one more thing though, could the high fuel consumption be down to the dirty/faulty throttle body?
I thought I might add that when it does stall the engine management light does come on and when i start the car everytime it tends to stay on for a few seconds
Thanks again,

engine management light means the ecu has detected a fault, when it goes of the fault is no longer detected, so we know your fault is intermittent.

poor fuel economy is common when there is a throttle position sensor fault.
