I own a Fiat Bravo. The batteries ran out in my main blue key. I turned off the alarm with the round key in the switch under the steering wheel. After replacing the batteries in the key I switched on the alarm again. However the key no longer works the alarm or central locking when I press the button.
What has happened? Do I have to reprogram the blue key using the procedure with the red key outlined in the manual or will it be a case of taking it to Mr Fiat?

Hi and welcome to the forum:D

I would try to recode the immobiliser first. The immobiliser usually locks out new key programming as a 'security' measure, but it may work.

Otherwise its off to FIAT with your red key and code card.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

So do you mean the procedure whereby you place the red key in the ignition followed by the blue keys method?

What do you think has actually happened, has my blue key been decoded simply by changing the batteries?

The red key/blue key method is for the code system. You program the immobiliser using the button on the courtesy light console.

Make sure the alarm is turned on at the master and off with the remote. Key is out or in stop position and all doors, etc., closed.

Push the small button with a pen or similar, the LED beside it should start to flash. Keeping the button pressed, push the button on the key. If the light stops flashing and goes constant on, then you have programmed that key into the alarm.

Try a couple of times if no luck first time.

The immobiliser will usually lock out this system after a period of time so it may not work. If this is the case then as before - red key, code card and FIAT.

Not sure why this happened, both key and immobiliser should remember who they are and what keys are logged after battery change/isolation.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Polecat,
Thanks for the instructions. Trouble is, when I switch the alarm back on, I can't switch it off with the key. Hence I cannot attempt the re-programming procedure as the alarm is going off!!!! (catch-22)
I have all the keys and the code card, but judging by the muppets at my local Fiat who hadn't a clue when I asked them about it, I'm gonna be paying for Mr Fiats Autumn holiday!!!!

Sry, didn't realise the alarm was activated. You could try resetting the ECU, but if FIAT had any sense that would not reset the alarm. (mmm, now that I think about it, it may be worth trying ;))

It may be worth ringing round a few other dealers in the area for comparitive quotes. I have found that up here the dealers seem not to talk to each other and so costs can be quite different.
