Hi, I bought a 2000 model, 1.6 Bravo Sx In a reasonable condition. I had lots of problems with the engine sound runnig, also exhoust leakage. But I still have some problems.

Like

1) Engine does not run smooth, It runs like a diesel engine, lots of sounds coming from the engine.
Firts I tought that the sound came from the exhaust heat cover. I toke it, sound was gone a little but it still make sound. And engine starts to vibrate after around 3000RPM.
After that we checked the timing belt and synchronization of cams, both cams are in good condition and synchronization is perfect.
but in sipite of that car has grate accelaration, and tork

Is it supposed to be like that? runs vibrating

2) After we opened the bonnet I saw that My TDC/crank sensor cable has short-cuts in three different places. The engine didn't want to run for a while. I chanced the cable. and erase the error from the ECU with diagnostic tool.

For a while I tought that a misfiring spark plug, coil or broken injector, may couse the vibrating but the diagnostic tool didn't show any other errors.

I chaned spark plugs 6000km ago.

Is it possible that diagnostic tool cannot understant a broken coil or injector?

I didn't go to the service I admit! but my local car service says it is nothing to worry about. But I saw many engines running without any vibrating.

Now today after my father used the car for shopping. I want to drive a little. But the car doesn't want to start. If i don't push the throttle and turn the key,it starts, RPM goes to around 2500, and come back to 900 then stops. If i push the throttle a little bit and turn the key,it starts, RPM goes to around 3000, and come back to 900, and stays there. I opened the bonnet again and it was like hell, temperature was very high, but nothing was melted :) I think the IAC was broken or butterfly got jammed.
now i will try it with cold condition.

Anyway It's long story about me & my bravo, thank you for reading up this far.

Bye

your problem sounds exactly like injector failure, which is very common on the 1.6.

you can check by measuring the resistance of your inejctors, any less than 13ohms should be replaced. there is a connector at the right hand side of the fuel rail, disocnnect it and then use a multimeter to test the resistance of the injectors, use the centre pin as earth and the other 4 pins are each for an injectors, test all 4. a good injector is 15-16.5ohms

there are many previous threads with detailed guides on how to diagnose and replace 1.6 injectors so have a search to get further advice.

I checked injectors after your message. Resistances are 16.6,16.5,16.8,16.6 . What else could it be ?

that is a great injector test result (y)

next most likely cause is the coilpack, then HT leads. visually check for a spark on all 4 plugs.

assuming you have good ignition on all 4, it is time to do a compression test to see if all 4 cylinders are getting good even compression.

Actually 1 month ago, the Idea came to me that I need to test the compression. But the service guy said that, "Do your car burn oil?" And I said
no. "So there is no need to test the compression!" he said.:bang:
But I will check that right now(y)

And Also I have a top speed issue. I cannot do a 200-220 Km/h . Car is tearing apart to reach 200. It dies after 190km/h even on a blue sky-no wind day, full throttle, on highway downhill:bang:. But firts three gear acc. is very good. or I think so

if the timing is out that will affect compression, and performance, but wont affect oil. its possible that the timing belt was replaced badly in the past, or it may have slipped.

You're right, We also get suspicious about badly replaced timing belt, or non-functioning belt tensor.

Now we decided to open the engine, and look all the things, cams, pistons, valves, intake & throttle on monday.

PS: I'll put a turbo and independent 4 throttle bodies on my machine. I bought a second-hand intercooler from an Alfa. These are pictures of the Alfa

Thanks a lot by the way. :D

Hi again,

we opened the upper-end of the engine, cams, springs valves, etc. We saw that valves guides' inside diameters are not in the limites. Some of them are bigger than it should. So we replaced all of them. Alse we changed water pump, because its belt disc was vibrating, and lost its balance. And we put all the parts back to the engine. It runs perfectly now, no vibration at all. Goes like jet :yum:

Thank you again. See you in a different Thread.
