i need help soon before i end up selling my little car

car is very noisy and rattly on start up

was goin to service it but dont want to throw money at it if its going to break my temp gauge sits at about a quarter on normal runs but motorway runs the gauge will sit about half and a smell of burning oil seems to be very evidentwant to replace plugs oil/air filter and leads do u think this will make a iffernece because the one thing i dont want to do is get rid of my car

Have you check the oil level your car could be screaming out for oil if it sounds like that, maybe a good service will do it good as well. Does the engine seem to run ok or does it hestiate as it may be running rich as well. You may have an oil leak which is while you can smell oil when it get hot as it prob dripping on your mainifold.

noisey and rattly on startup, so that suggests its not noisey or rattly once warmed up?

which engine is it?

if the servicables havent been changed in line with the service schedule then they should be changed.

well since i got it in november i havent changed anything

i want to get it serviced i have a fair knowledge of cars so will prob replace everything i can oil filter fan belt rocker cover gasket etc

i filled the oil up it is quieter but now its struggling to start possible starter??????

i turn key and have to pump the gas to get it started?????????

if engine is turning at normal speed then starter is fine and it must be ignition or compression or injections that are preventing it form starting.

lets deal with ignition first since its the most likely, so check for a good spark on all plugs.

do a compression test to check timing is ok.
