Hi guys, I was driving the other day and saw a massive pothole in the road, moved to avoid it and went straight into another one behind it! To put it into perspective, both potholes are so big that if a motor cyclist hit it, they'd go flying over the handle bars (and straight onto the junction with traffic going 40mph)

Anyway, really loud bang, the wheel hit it square on, had a passenger and doubt that helped! The car feels fine at normal speeds but around 70mph I'm getting some vibrations through the steering wheel.

Front tyres need changing soon anyway so probably get it checked then. I just can't believe after several requests from the locals the council still haven't sorted it out. (Family live in the area and know the requests have been made)

there was a huge pothole just down the road from me..its on a corner where water runs across the road. It ripped n/s wheel from a new Landrover Discovery!

I'd get the alloy wheel looked at, not that expensive to get them repaired. I'd also check the suspension, wishbone etc incase anything is bent!

buckled wheel! which means you should bill the council for it. there is a form you can get, you fill it in and send it off, then wait for the cheque in the post. nice :)

If your lucky you may have lost a wheel balancing weight? Easy to spot, the impact could have shaken it off.

Cheers guys.

Sounds hopeful, without sounding lazy, any ideas where I'd find it?
I'll check myself later on when I have the chance.

(If anyone in the Guildford area has lost a dog or cat in Hindhead, I'd recommend searching those pot holes first. They're big enough!)

Edit: Thanks Ffoxy, I'll get that checked too

First of all, thanks for the advice Jug (Totally forgot last time!)

Right, in short nothing came of this in the end. I hadn't managed to get photo's and within a couple of days of it happening, it had been filled. Usually carry a cheapo camera in the car just in case, the one time I needed it and it was at home!

The buckle looks quite bad, I'll get a pic up when I can (And donated!) but just wanted to know if anyone thinks it's worth trying to get a buckled wheel repaired? I'd imagine it would depend on the severity but thought I'd throw the question out there

Other than that, I need to find myself 1 Claw alloy! Fun fun

you shouldnt drive around with a buckled wheel, it doest take long to affect the wheel bearing, wishbone, track rod end and even the steering rack and suspension, making the cost of repair double what it could have been.

buckles can often be repaired by freezing the wheel in liquid nitrogen, but this dmaages the paint so it would need ot be resprayed, the chances of it matching the other wheel is smal so realistically you'll be getting 1 frozen and all 4 painted. ask at your local alloy refurb place, they deal with this type of problem all the time.

Yup, changed the wheels as soon as I could, which wasn't long after it happened. Lucky I kept the original alloys!

Shall have to make a trip down then, cheers
