Hello there all of you. This is my first ever post.

Last summer I bought a fiat bravo without the RED key. I knew all about the implications but went ahead with the purchase anyway.

After picking the car up from the mechanic this morning all was fine. I must have started the car ten times since then BUT in the afternoon I attempted to start the car and it just didn't start- Key code light didnt come on when I turned the key and the engine didn't want to start. After about three more attempts the Key code light finally came on, went off, and the engine started (all OK). I went shopping and after getting back into the car the same thing happened- Key code light (amber) did not go on and the injector light remained permanently on, engine turns but no ignition. I have now left the car there over night and will go back for one last try tomorrow morning before having it towed.

I have found many posts in regards to the key code light staying ON but none about the key code light NOT GOING ON AT ALL. What does it mean when the key code light doesn't even appear and the injector light is permanently on?

Any help will be greatly appreciated especially since there doesn't appear to be anything about this topic of the key code light not even appearing and the car not starting.

Thanks.

Check/change the 30 amp fuse in the fuse box under the bonet,it is the smallest one in there right at the front.

Also there are a few connecting plugs/sockets around that area check that they are all firm and tight.

See how you get on with that.

Cheers Scotty(y)

Thanks ScottyJTD. I will check it out first thing in the morning and let you guys know. Any other replies/advice is welcome.

Thanks again.

If you get time check the ring that goes around the ignition barrel this is the pick up for the immobiliser chip in your key.

Took out each and every fuse and relay that I could find but all of them appeared to be OK. I have checked all the wiring that I could find but didn't notice anything suspicious.

As for the ring/antenna around the ignition barell...... how could this actually be checked? it looks OK visually.

Car has now been towed to mechanic and I should know it's fate by Tuesday.

Thank you all for your advice.

hi jug,
i have just reg wit this site about my ducato prob.. from cold start, stoppin & startin no prob, my key code light goes out.. but once engine fully warmed up, key code light stays on & engine will not start.. its as if it were an over heatin prob.. any ideas matey.. cheers..

if it only happens when the engine is warmed up it is usually due to a rusty immob fuse holder in the engine bay. when hot the rust creates excess resistance in the circuit. once that resistance drops the voltage below the minimum required by the immob it will trigger an immob system fault. it is possible the rust or poor connection could be elsewhere, for example the immob system's earth is another favorite, or the main earth strap between gearbox and chassis (especially if battery light glows dimly once warmed up, check in the dark).
