My 1.2 developed a knocking noise yesterday. It 'se3ems to be coming from front passenger wheel or around the centre of the engine bay. It isnt a load knocking but rather like a pice of thick plastic hitting something.

The noise only happens when I take my foot off the accelerator. The noise stays at the same volume but gets faster relative to wheel speed and not engine speed.

I've had a look underneath and cant see anything obvious.

Anyone any ideas and prices to fix?

Tried tightening the wheel nuts? I heard a similar noise when i got my alloys put on. I tightened them up and no more noise!!

i dunno if this helps but i had knocking like yours on my sei and it turned out that the plastic gearbox protector had worked loose and was bouncing up and down hitting the gearbox

Lol, yeah polecat. Had 4 new tyres put on today. Noise seems to be from driveshaft. Bravo_owd_chap (Dawns Kev) has kindly offered to have a quick look for us tomorrow

And the bad news is.........metal shavings in the gearbox oil! Looks like the diff and new gearbox required.

Thanks bravo_owd_chap.

(really strange experience thanking somebody for telling you your gearbox is shafted) [V]

Thanks to bravo_owd_chap (aka Kev), my new gearbox was fitted today. Dropped my car off last night, borrowed his (muuuhaaahaaaa). He picked up a gearbox from a MKII punto 60 (£160) and worked his b*ll*x off to fit it mine today.

Went round to collect it this eve and he had arse raped my engine too with steam! Noooo, my engine bay is now clean! I'd been gathering that muck and oil for over 3 years! Lol. And then dawn and the kids washed my car!

Thanks a lot Kev - you're life saver.

Anyone need their car fixing, his number is 019.......lololol

Steam cleaning one's engine is to be recommended then? Always wondered how they were cleaned up, I pictured people with their feather dusters cleaning them out.... :I
