General 1.4 conversion to 1.2

General 1.4 conversion to 1.2

it was so easy because all the S and SX trim level mk1 models use the same body loom, so you can connect the 1.6 engine loom to the 1.4 body loom.

so if u wanted to put a 147 HGT engine in, id have to change the body loom connectors?

the workshop manual shows that the body looms are very different, but you could change the connector to get it working, and since the car's body doesnt even have the things that it doesnt have the wiring for, its no real loss, but you would need to look at the wiring diagrams to decide which wire goes where on the connector.

save your money and just buy a HGT, then you also get the other great HGT spec like the much better brakes with ABS, the better steering with less assistance, the improved suspension, the wider front track, and all the other googies like the sports interior.

it would be cheaper to insure a standard HGT, in the same way your car is costing you more to insure than a standard 1.6, conversions aren't good for insurance.

i know it isnt lol...but if uv put **** loads cash and time and effort into ur car...just to sell her, is a waste. so id rather spend that extra bit more and upgrade the engine. that way u get the best of both...

right...full custom interior? brakes? bodykit? paint lol....

doubt its less hassle lol..

as opposed to,
Engine
gearbox
drive shafts
front brakes
exhaust
possibly fuel pump
rear brakes
dampers
springs
wishbones
anti roll bar
radiator
engine loom
electrics loom
Ecu
steering rack
Wider wings
wider bumper
etc.

;)

iv already got the wider wings and bumper lol...iv done a marea conversion on mine and iv got a hgt bumper for it aswell.

i suppose it could be. but it was pretty easy for me last time...then again it was a smaller engine lol...itll be a thinking thing lol

the easiest way for a conversion would be to get a salvage HGT with good mechanicals.

Drop the subframe with engine gearbox and suspension all attached

then do same to yours.

swap over all looms that are in the HGT engine bay, ECU etc. Then electrics loom from the HGT car (sounds simple, but isn't) and then bolt up the subframe.

Then swap rear axle's over.

what ur saying does sound very difficult to do lol..

sound very tiring lol wont be happening for ages though. need to get a few years under my belt lol.

so its actually not much trouble to drop a 1.6 engine into a 1.4 changin just the engine loom which should com with the engine or car if you buy a crashed 1? cheers.
