my 1.9 jtd , 75k miles on the clock and is down on power. stationary the engine will rev. jump in the car, pull away and it take a age to get going. when you are moving take your foot of the accelerator slightly and press down again and the engine respondes. it feels like somethink is holding it back.
does anyone have any ideals or have come across this problem?

:bang: Nick

just changed the fuel filter, air filter and poured in redex injector cleaner into fuel tank. there has been a some improvement, the engine is still flat on response.
any more ideals from anyone would help

Nick

Better still replace the MAF sensor, if its the original it'll more than likely need replacing with a O.E Bosch part.

When i unplug my MAF it feels extremely slow, hard to gain revs up fast unless idling. Therefore if he unplugged his MAF he may not see a difference. Mines a JTD100 (Phase3) though. Might be different on a JTD105. A new maf should sort that out but has it been like this long or did it happen over night?

My JTD 105 felt like night and day when unplugged to diagnose. worth knowing that the 100 is slightly different. :)

this sluggishness on the engine has creeped up on me, this maf sensor, it is the orginal part on the engine never been changed.
so can l ask were it is on the engine? l have no idea , were can l buy one from? is ita dealer part or a local auto parts shop, or halfords ?
the engine is a 1.9 jtd 105hp:confused:

The maf sensor is Mass airflow Sensor.

It is located on the air induction pipe. Under the bonnet If you follow the air pipe as it exits the airbox (which is on the far right hand side of the engine bay against the wing)
You will notice that there is halfway up the flexi rubber tubing a solid joint or collar. It has a component which has an electrical plug connector/wires leading off from it. This is it.

It is possible to clean. But might be more serious and need replacing.

1st though try unplugging it and run the car briefly with it unplugged. This should cause the car to run much better. If it still runs sluggish then it does not eliminate the maf completely (see JoskeJTD's post above) but is the 1st thing to try.

I hope this is of help.

Thanks Bridges for the info .just disconnected the maf , went for a test run the car was back to its old self. so the maf is the problem.

Nick

took the maf out this afternoon ,and cleaned the maf with contact cleaner it made no difference . the engine was still sluggish.
local car parts shop will order me one. collect on wednesday

Nick

collected new maf sensor ,fitted today, the car runs a treat just like when it was new. took about 1/2 hour to fit. to do the job you will need 2 new hoze clips around 85mm in diameter.the part is from FUEL PARTS UK , part # maf s077. made in germany costs £87.
just like to thank everyone for there wise input. thanks :worship:

Nick :D

the only info l can give on the part is has follows is:- Fuel Parts uk, phone number 01527 835555 , www.fpuk.co.uk , part # mafs007 .

had the new maf sesor fitted for a week now and there has been no problems. the engine is very eager ,and the pull out of corners is very good. so is the top end speed. traveling 12 miles a day lm getting 42mpg.
when you are driving the car it feels like you have more than 105 hp. it does shift. l think its faster now than when it was new.

how badly could a bad MAF effect the power ! mine wont rev over 2000 right now, but ticks over sweet as a nut, but struggling to drive it now, seems to want to stall....................

Yoshi... just un-plug the bl**dy MAF sensor & try it!

This Thread is more than 2 years old, find the MAF, un-plug it, test drive it... if its better replace the MAF...
