my car is in bits, but put it back together, so i can ask jug some simple gearbox diagnosis, and cant get it to start.

it seems to be all connected back up, ignition comes on when i turn the key, however the code light on the left and the oil lights(i think it is next to it) dont come on at all?

the abs light and handbrake light, petrol light window light, and seatbelt light come on, but not the others.

jsut tried again, and the lights came on. tried to turn it over, and the engine tick for half a second, then back to those lights above not coming on. thought it was a loose battery, so tightened it right up, and still not coming back on?

its really bugging me now. any one got any ideas?

thanks

it soulds like a dodgy connection, or possibly a flat battery. first thing to do is double check everything you've touched, and look for anything you may have knocked by accident. if possible try a different battery.

Yea cheers, was a connection that had slightly come off again. ta.

Will be getting a new clutch thsi week, trying to fit this wkend.

for anyone that interested, the "clutch specialist" dont know address look them up, does cheap clutches. havnt bought it yet, but advertised a 2.0 hgt clutch for 55 delivered including VAT elsewhere i got quoted up to £180 for just the clutch kit.

£180 is about right for a valeo clutch kit. £55 that is very cheap. Hope its a decent quality item. If so bargain (y)
Are you doing the work yourself? If so have a look at my 20v gearbox removal guide it is in the Marea guide section. :)

yea am doing it myself, didint know you had a guide on here, awesome :slayer:

am guessing the 20v bravo is basically the same

yea 55 does seem really cheap.

here it is... doesnt seem too bad. phoning the guy after work.

only question i have is, fitting the new clutch back on, i understand you have to have some kind of release bearing, or lever engaged as the clutch goes back on. ive heard about this?

will it seem straight forward when you get to putting the gearbox back on with the clutch in it, what to do? can anyone clarify this for me?

thanks

The Marea Bravo and coupe are all chassis/engine bay wise, the same cars. so guide is identical (y)

No! It is the coupe 20VTurbo gearbox which needs the release bearing arm held in order for the clutch to align when the gearbox is realigned/ bolted to the engine. No such issues with the 20v. :)

here is the guide

Any problems then just post them upon the forum (y)

erm, the clutch is fitted to the engine, then you refit the gearbox. only the release bearing goes on the box.

cheers, your guide looks really helpful thanks, have started going through it, but am stuck.

have a couple of questions.

1) are you only taking the passenger side hub off? and when do you take the driveshaft off?

ive got 1 bolt holding the hub to the strut, and one holding the wishbone to the bottom of the hub. and the driveshaft obviously to the hub. dont want to disconnect the hub, as it would put a lot of pressure on it, would this wreck it?

2) are you taking driveshatfs off each side? i dont think you mention a point whne you do this if you do

3) how do you disconnect the ABS sensor from the hub? have undone the allan key bolt, but it still seems connected very solidly. is there something else you have to do? is it possible to keep it connected once you take the hub off?
