Hi,

It seems the new Brava I got my wife has some light issues.

Firstly the battery warning light has just started flickering when driving along, it does it going over bumps so is possibly something wrong in the wiring either at the connector or in the loom leading to it, a slight rev of the engine stops it flickering however I believe this is because it stabilises the engine (and therefore the wiring fault) rather than the actual charge from the alternator, I've also found that the back lights are all messed up.
Hit the brakes and the indicators light up as well, sidelights also lights up the indicators and if you indicate while approaching a junction, as soon as you touch the brakes the indicator shuts off until you release the brake LOL oh and every touch of the brakes or putting the car in reverse puts the fog lights on albeit very dim :D
Obviously the lights are either shorting out at the back or the earth connection is very dodgy, just wondered what is the usual place on the Bravas to look at first?
I just quickly pulled the connector off the rear ligth and all looked perfect but will investigate further when I have time....any wisdom on the common areas on the Brava though would save a lot of messing around.

Cheers,
Paul.

the rear light fault is common, a quick spray of wd40 on each connector usualy sorts it out.

check the voltage across the battery with engine running, it should be 14.4v with no electricals on, and at least 13.99v with all electricals on (lights, stereo, demister etc.). if its any less then the alternator hasnt got long left. alternatively it could be the main earth strap, which goes from the gearbox to the chassis. check it is not rotten and clean the connection at either end.
