Just would like to know how easy it is to replace the slave cylinder on a 1.4 bravo 98 sx, from reading other threads, i think it is located under the battery. Thats as far as my knowledge goes
... aso i was reading a previous thread listed below & I was having similar problems in my 1.4, the light came on & I lost acceleration in the car, it felt like i was driving with the brakes on & had to put my foot down to maintain whatever speed I was comfortably doing before. This problem was intetmitent & still is & when ever I was going to take it to a garage the problem would go & the mechanics could not locate it. I'm just wondering if it is a faulty injector, i think the 1.4 has one but im not sure.
+ my starter motor is sticking as I usually have to give it a few knocks before the engine starts (only recently started happening in the cold weather) Someone mentioned that you could clean it & grease it up to help the situation, would like to know how.

its definately time to test the injectors. use a multimeter. the 1.6s are very prone to injector faults.

to measure the resistance of the injectors, disconnect the injector wiring hanress connector. this is at the right hand side of the fuel rail when looking in engine bay. inside the connector there are 5 pins. the centre pin is the earth. touch the black terminal of the multimeter on this pin. the other 4 pins are each for an injector. touch the red terminal of the multimeter on each of these pins, making a note of the resistance for each pin.

each injector should have a resistance between 14.5-15ohms. if any are lower than 13ohms i would replace them.

if you search for posts by me (jug) and search for 'injector' you should find plenty to help you out. you should also find instructions detailing how to change the injector. its very easy.

a scrapyard injector will only cost you a small amount (i usually pay £5 for 1 injector)

make sure you get the correct injector, there are two types- 4hole and 2hole. the best way to make sure you get the correct one is to remove it from an engine exactly like yours. there are 2 different inlet manifolds on top of the 1.6 engines, metal ones on the earlier models and black plastic ones on the later models. you will have metal or plastic so simply make sure its the same on the car you remove an injector from, if it turns out you need one.

you are correct the slave cylinder is underneath the battery. it is attached to the top of the gearbox with 3 bolts, you also need to disconnect the hose that feeds it. replacement is very easy. use a brake bleed kit when you fit the new one to make sure you get all the air out. if you have any doubts a haynes manual is a wise investment.

your intermittent power loss problem should have triggered a fault code to be stored in the ecu, when the light comes on that is usually what happens. a diagnostic should be able to get the code and that will help you identify the problem. since it is intermittent i would think a sensor is the most likely cause, possibly something as simple a dodgy wiring connection or a dirty connector.

a sticking starter motor is more often due to a solenoid fault, you can try to lubricate the solenoid to see if it engages more relibaly, but replacement is the long term solution.
 
My SX is hydraulic aswell. Never understood why some are hyraulic and some are cable operated.

Or maybe the S has the cable ans the rest of the range are hydraulic?
