Recently ive been having dirty thoughts about something...;)

Anyway after someone i know got an audi tt a while back ive been thinking if the 1.8t engine would go in the bravo as an alternative to the 20vt con.

reasons are its more reliable, easier to tune and prob more mpg to, well from what i know. ive seen them in other cars eg mk2 clio. (ppc mag)

just wondered could it be done and wwhat it would envolve???

and would, if you had the money time etc, would you do it. i mean german engine in italian car???

hummmmmmm:eek:

well its venturing into the unknown but you can be sure it will cost a fortune if you cant do a lot of the work yourself, and even if you can it will still cost a lot.

you need to fabricate engine mounts, figure out how you're going to make driveshafts compatible with the gearbox and hubs, get the ecu working with your non-engine devices, and install a custom made wiring loom to connect the engine managenent systme to the ecu. dont underestimate the headache this wiring would cause. then you need to sort out pipes for cooling system. you've got to make gear linkages so your bravo selector can operate the gearbox. you may need to convert your accelerator pedal to drive by wire type. you will have to satisfy the new ecu's immob requirement which is another wiring nightmare unless you disable the immob, and how do you do that, who is going to mod the ecu? millions of issues to consider like weight distribution, if the bravo cooling system is sufficient for the engine or do you need to fit a different rad/fan as well etc etc etc.

it would be great fun and if i won the lottery i'd spend the rest of my days doing things like this just for the hell of it, but in the real world its not worth the money and you really need to know what you are doing unless you pay the experts a fortune, and why do that when you can buy a better car for less money?

if you want a 1.8t just buy a mk4 golf, its the same engine, and although it lacks torque as standard a remap should sort that out, and the mk4 golf's crappy handling can be easily fixed with a suspension upgrade. thats a cheaper way to get what you're after if you can live with a golf gti.

4 cylinder piece of rubbish :D The 225 TT engine is thirstier than a 20VT has far less torque but is quite tunable. However they are not as reliable as you might think.
