can anyone explain why my engine management stays on and engine only starts and then cuts out immediately.
 
first thing to do is get a pressure gauge on the fuel rail, i suspect it willl be building up pressure when ignition is switched on, then you will see pressure drop quickly when engine is started, causing cut out. if thats the case its either the fuel pump, fuel filter or pressure regulator thats to blame. definately the first thing to try imo.
 
thanks for the help,finally got it started:D ,had diagnostics done but the only fault showing was the fan relay,i knew that cos the fan wasnt in the car,:confused: clever that diagnostics man eh..:rolleyes: 30 quid to tell me that eh..:eek: . finally after saying ecu,then immoboliser,it could be anything,(n) . morale of story do it yourself or find someone who knows what to do.:p . anyway i ran a check everywhere to check for live and earths... guess what? it ran. i dont know what it is but its a box on the left side of the injector housing,i ran a live in and a good earth to it and hey presto,she fired and ran.:D anyway people thanks for the help:worship: and if anyone knows what the box is or does that would be a great help...:slayer:
 
sorry mate its a 2001 y reg with a 1242 engine,the ecu is actually on the inlet manifold not the bulkhead,hope that helps:)
