Is this possible?

My 1.2 80sx 2001 plate wasn't fitted with the optional air-conditioning. It's pretty much perfect in every other way. Comfortable, reliable, good on long journeys, as well as around town. But perfection would be a car that was cool inside, with air conditioning.

Am I right in thinking that on the sx range air-con was an option? Similar to the Punto range, where you had a choice - either air-con, or a sunroof? (Mine has the latter).

If so, is it possible to take the parts off a scrapped Bravo, and install the air-con myself. I know the parts I'll need, as I have this on the Coupe, plus I did some research into this last night. Also, would I need air-con specifically for a 1.2 80sx Bravo, or could I use any scrapped Bravo's air-con?

The other alternative is to buy the parts new from Fiat. But I'd assume the parts would be very expensive - although I could save money by doing the work myself....

As always, all advice is most welcome.:)

As an owner of a Bravo 1.2 with air condition (and living in Greece) i can say, that even if you manage to install it perfectly, you'll be disappointed with the perfomance, especially when the temp is over 35C.
Not to mention the enormous fuel consumption.. :(

yes you can retro fit a/c using a donor car for the parts. it would be a real headache, but there's no reason you cant do it. it will cause a noticable loss of performacne and economy when its switched on, but that doesnt matter when you're stuck in a hot traffic jam.

So, yes, it's possible.

And I'll notice some loss in performance - but I have the Coupe for that. :)

But would I specifically need air-con from a 1.2 80sx Bravo, or would any air-con fit, for example from a 1.8 HLX, etc?

:)

according to the manual there are 4 different versions of the a/c system installed. it seems of the 4 versions, there are only really 2 different setups, either with or without ABI. i'm not sure what ABI stands for?

looking at the list of components and the wiring diagram, i think it would be very difficult to retro fit unless the wiring is already there.

:chin: Hmmm. ABI? Not sure.

But it looks like, for compatibility at least, air-con from a Bravo 1.2. Possibly even a 1.2 Punto ELX, or similar.

The electrics would be complicated too... as you say yourself.

Think I'll do some more investigation into this before taking any sort of "plunge".

If I do go ahead, I'll be sure to put a guide up on here though.

:)

That would be great i been debating whether or not to fit aircon muyself but not sure if the headaches would justify having an aircon.

Well that answers another question!

I've just received a reply back from a company who fit air-con to cars as an aftermarket option.

They've quoted £1,586.25 (inc VAT), that's all in.

Maybe that's why it's called Air-CON. :D

Not giving up yet, though.

:)

Indeed.

It'd be easier and cheaper to buy another Bravo, with Air-con already fitted. Goodness knows how they get any customers.

:)
