hi
Fiat bravo 2001 16v

Just came on this morning - flashes occasionaly on and off but engne and car slighly shaking on low revs, not purring - seems fine when i speed up - can i fix in myslef or is it off to the garage for soem costly work

the fuel gauge fault is common, try banging your fist above it. if that fixes it, it means there is a fault inside the instrument panel or a loose connector behind it. if the fist method has no effect it means the problem is more likely to be the fuel gauge sender unit at the pump, which can be accessed by removing the round plastic panel under the boot carpet.

the erratic idle is often fixed by cleaning out the throttle body on the 1.2 model. if that fails you may have a throttle position sensor fault, which would bring on the fuel injection fault light on the dash. if thats the case go to a dealer for a diagnostic.

hi

thanks for this - however got my terminology all wrong - it is the fuel pump light that is playing up light comes on and engine mis firing

cheers again the help this is great
james

there is no fuel pump light, i think you mean the fuel injection system fault light (looks like a hose with water coming out).

the fuel injection system fault light on fiats is the same and the engine management light on other brands. it simply means the ecu has noticed a fault or out of range signal. that could be anything, so a diagnostic at a dealer is probably the best thing to do at this stage.
