General door handle

General door handle

first i would check that the problem isnt just loose bolts. one is a torx head bolt on the side of the door, the other is a 10mm bolt that you need to reomve the door card to access.

if the handle is damaged the best thing to do is replace it with a scrapyard handle (£10 max)

its an easy job, the only difficulty is getting the 2 rods to connect to the handle, its a bit fiddly. make sure you dont lose or damage the plastic clips that secure the rods to the handle.

the lock barrel (key bit) is only held in by a single circlip. you just pull it off and then the lock barrel can be withdrawn from the handle using your key.

slot the new barrel in using your key and then push the circlip back on. its easy peasy trust me.

if you dont feel very confident get a haynes manual (y)

easy you serious!!!! probably easy when you know how.. i managed after alot of swearing to extract one from a scrappies...passenger...there was a large silver bar attached to the large locking mechanism i couldnt get my hand past without taking it out to get to the handle from inside...once the locking mechanism was out the handles WAS easy to get to then....
maybe you have an easy way of installing/extracting them!!!

i couldnt find another drivers side as i need both but found another passenger side....can you take out the screws from the lock and turn over the components so the handle can be changed to a drivers side handle??? it looks like it could work as the shape of the handle is the same except the components which may have to be exchanged for my old drivers side one???can it be done getting 2 passenger side handles???thanks..(y)

you need the right tools, you can fit fingers everywhere. when the handle is only connected by the 2 rods you need something long and narrow to get them off, i use very long nosed pliers.

I had a loose door handle, turned out to be just the screw/bolt holding it on. Managed to reach it once i took the door card off, wasnt too bad.
