Hi! Im from Portugal and i need help in a Fiat Bravo technical matter.
A bunch of friends are all discussing if is there a Fiat Bravo with a Variable Geometry Turbo is it just a mith.

I have a Bravo JTD 100 but its turbo is a Garret GT1444S no VG, but in my Fiat Car manual it says it has! In a lot of sites that information is also given and in one or two Bravo´s here in Portugal their owners afirm that it is true.

I would like if someone can explain to us and help us clear this doubt.

Thank you a lot! sorry for bad english. :)

i've found a variety of information, some claims the turbo is VG, others do not mention it, however none of the informaiton i have found is official fiat, alfa or garrett published information so i cant be sure, however i have found nothing that specifically says the turbo is not VG.

the amount of evidence i have found would suggest that the turbo is VG, why do you think it is not?

I have a Bravo GT JTD 100 and it is not VG, it says in the manual it is but it is not. Some of my friends and i still believe that it there are some with VG but we do not have prof of that.. and the information is so minimal. :(

I will still try to find more thank you for your effort, if somebody else have something to say i would be appriciated. :)

I know because it is a Garret GT1444S and the reference is for a non VG Turbo, yes i know it is not but why Fiat put it on the manual ? marea has some motor´s that have VGT and some bravo owners here in Portugal claim they have it..

I would just like to know if Fiat did made them or is it just a manual error and lots of speculation.. Do you think that if i e-mail Fiat they would answer ? probably not.. :(

This type ot Turbo don't have a VG!!!
Only 1.9JTD 115hp has.

if the JTD110 uses the Garrett GT1444S turbo, which turbo does the JTD115 use?

i think you must have different models in different countries, in the UK the bravo only came with the GT1544S turbo on the JTD, which was not VG. this was the 105 model.

wiki suggests VG was only available on the 120 and 130 8v models of the JTD, which were never fitted to the bravo/a range, but i never trust anything i read on wiki.

Hello!
Here the 105 JTD is fitted with the GT1544 yes but all 100 JTD are fitted GT1444S, dunno why probably because it is more resistant to heat and fastest to fill. The Bravo 100 JTD is fastest then the 105 JTD and has less turbo lag.

Here in Portugal we had a specialized company that together with Fiat launched the Bravo 130R also without VG, very few units still cruising the streets but what a power full beast! i have specs

And the power full Fiat Bravo CNV

And this one has a VG... now i still don't know. I will try to contact Fiat.

Are uprated clutches available outside of the UK then? I would have loved to get a remap but just know it will ruin my clutch and reliability :(

Yeah but I imagine that that car is a completely different car to mine with so much changed? The 130 I presume is pretty much the same car at a guess but with 130 bhp surely they would have uprated the clutch? Since I only plan on keeping my car another 18 months, investing in a new clutch at 48k and a remap would be silly for the sake of an extra 30 bhp though.

i would have thought the 130 was standard apart from a remap. i guess they only take it to 130 because that is a safe increase for stock components.

i would assume the CNV needs a different clutch, brakes, suspension, maybe even driveshafts.

The 130R has the same clutch.. it can take 130 with no sweat and it starts to wear off real fast above 140.
But here in Portugal we have a specialized company that prevents that by repairing or with a new one they make them support 200 to 230 horse power :).

The CNV is very very impressive but with a good engineer remapping a JTD making the turbo hybrid and reinforcing the clutch will give you lots of fun, great accelerating power a very good top speed (with a 160 hp 238km by GPS) very god and very reliable.. but still it will never have the kick from a VG turbo.. ;)
