HELP: 1st Post: Warning Light (Engine Control System Failure)
Hi members of this superb board, I have a question and was wondering if anybody could help me please.

My wife was driving her Fiat Bravo 1500 SX today along the motorway. When she increased her speed to 80-90mph the cars' ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM FAILURE warning light came on. As soon as she reduced her speed to 70mph or less the warning light went out ? While the light was on, the car was juddering and losing power. Is this problem related to the petrol injectors (which i have seen on this forum as a common problem) ?

Can anybody advise me on what the problem could be, and how much it might cost to get rectified ?

Much appreciated.

there is no 1500 bravo, so i assume you mean the 1600?

if you can check the injectors and replace any faulty ones yourself it will cost you £5-10 per injector. at a garage it wil cost you about £130-150 per injector, plus labour charges of approx £50-100.

however there could be many possbile causes of this issue, so you really need to check the injectors using a multimeter to get an idea of the condition of the injectors. dont assume they are the cause. if this is not a 1600 bravo i very much doubt the injectors are a possibility.

Sounds a bit like its missing on a cylinder or two could be one of the coil packs or the crankshaft sensor, if you have a multimeter it is always worth checking the coil packs, its dead easy to do, the usually fail on the primary LT.
