Hi Guys

I've been to look at a 98' Bravo which im thinking of getting its done 47k miles and looks in over all good condition minus paint or rubber (not sure which) falling off the wing mirrors. I have seen a light appear on the dash though and then it disappeard. It looked like a tube with water coming out of it. I think it might be the fuel injection warning light. Im not sure what it is though as the cars manual didnt really say what it was.

Would anyone have any idea what the light was and if so is it a serious fault with the car?.

Any help is appreciated

Chris

Welcome to the Forum.
The light you have described is the engine managment light. It is meant to come on for a few seconds when you start the car then go off.

What model is the car?

Thanks for the info, why I asked is whist driving it came on for about 40 seconds and went off. I had been driving for about 10 minutes when it came on. Sounded strange to me so I thought Id ask here :)

The cars a 1.4 SX

That shouldn't happen. Don't know how serious it will be tho.
Also the 1.4 can be a pig off an engine I'm told. If you are intending on buying it ( and with the light coming on I'd proberly walk away unless it very cheap ) you should make sure it has been regularly serviced.

Thats what I thought, its for sale for £1,495 so Im guessing thats probably why its as cheap as it is. I just thought id double check with some people who have them or know about them first.

Thanks again for the help

DO NOT BUY A 1.4 BRAVO!

Unless you love replacing camshafts!

Sounds like I should avoid buying one then. Do you have any other similarly aged Fiat's of the same sort of engine size you would recommend

Same car but with the 1.2 it's the same powerish and a very reliable little engine.

Thanks for the advise, ill keep my eye out for one of them. I definetly wont be buying that one thats for sure. :)

Before buying one of these, please check the power steering in the car.

Every fiat we have owned gave us powersteering trouble.

My brava's powersteering decided to NOT budge whilst I was at a roundabout. The thing just seemed locked.

All in all, be aware that fiat's do have reliability problems, but you will love them anyway. Even though they love to try and kill you.

Thats not cheap at all!!!!!

I bought my 1998 bravo 1.6 sx with 30k on the clock almost two years ago for £1300.

Also the 1.6 is cheaper on insurance. By all means get a bravo they are fab cars, i have had three!! Just not a 1.4

you are crazy if you think thats cheap. a 1.4 is worth £700 at most, even for a very good one. have you even checked the market? 1.4s go very cheap, for that kind of money i'd want a mint condition full service history very low milage 1.2 with 3 original keys and a nice set of alloys.

the 1.4 is slower than the 1.2, uses more petrol, and the 1.4 is basically crap, certainly one of the worst engines with a fiat badge on.

this particular 1.4 has the fuel injeciton system fault light coming on, so the ecu has obviously noticed an intermittent fault. that could be many things, and could be expensive. walk away quickly, laughing at the deluded owner.

for example, same price but much better 1.2 model and 2 years newer: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-V-Fiat-B...oryZ9843QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and thats from a garage in london, you'll get one cheaper if you be patient and buy private. bravo's are absolute bargains.
