Hi i have a 1999 1.6 16v bravo it is not running very good so i was at the garage today and i could not find the diagnostic socket to plug in the computer can some one help to locate this for me the garage was very busy so i said i would find out where it is and let them know they also asked me what system is on the car they have oebd obd oebd2 can any body help thanks rob

None of these. Only the late model 1.2 16v CF3's and the JTD's are OBD compliant. To get it read you'll need to take it to fiat, or a fiat specialist who has the connections, and knows what they're doing. Unlike these cowboys who dont have the ability to find out for themselves.

My model is a 1.6 16v hlx and my problem that the nearest fiat garage is 100 miles away the car starts and ticks over perfect but when you drive it it lacks power and misses it gets worse when you realy try to accelerate hard and it is though it is of the timmng could it be the crankshaft sensor we have no scrappies near by so i would like to try and get the right bit as i would have to send to the fiat garage for it and some of these bits can be expensive.
thanks rob

I got the same car and model as yours, Ive been having the same problem when i got the car put on the diagnostics computer, it gave a reading of a map sensor and the knock sensor i replaced both and the problem seems to have stopped now dont know if this is of any help (map sensor £59 from motor factors, knock sensor £85 agents only)

on a 99 1.6 model you will have 2 diagnostic ports. both of them are the fiat 3 pin type. the 2 ports are for the main ecu and airbag. the main ecu connector is on the front of the fusebox in the engine bay.

to connect the 3 pin fiat connector to a 16 pin obd2 connector you need 4 lengths of wire. use 3 lengths of wire to connect the 3 pin connector to the obd connector. also use 1 length of wire for power to the obd connector.

on the 16 pin obd2 connector use the following pins
4- chassis ground (connect to ground on 3 pin connector, or any good chassis earth)
5- signal ground (connect to black wire pin on 3 pin connector)
7- k line (connect to white wire pin on 3 pin connector)
16- 12vDC (connect to battery positive terminal)
