Ive had the HGT for about 3 weeks now but cant help notice how quickly the petrol runs out. Its quite depressing watching the fuel noticably drop after a short drive... :(

I dont thrash it around although I do have a quick burst every now and then, and on the motorway I cruise at 80 but obviously go faster for overtaking BUT, I filled up on friday evening, full take, £40. Ive driven it about 15-25 miles since and im already 2 bars down, and these were not fast miles either. Like I said, a few bursts here and there but mostly crusing around at 30-50 etc. General driving.

Now, to me, this seems like alot! Doing the London to Stoke trip (150miles) I used around 1/2 a tank on the first run (cruising 80-85).. used aroun 1/4 of a tank on the second run (crusing 60-75) and used around 2/3 of the tank on friday, crusing again, around 80-85!

Does seem to be using alot imo, im used to my mums rover 600 2.0 16v (honda engine) and that doesnt use that kinda petrol

The only things I know are wrong with the car is a dodgy clutch (it judders on pulling away but doesnt slip) and there is a slight hole in the centre section (so small that it doesnt actually make the exhaust louder than standard but it is definatly there!).

Would any of these problems cause excessive fuel consumption or is spending £40 on a full tank once a week going to become my new hobby

i get about 18mpg so thats 200miles on £40 at about 92p/litre
How
My Coupe had one of those turbo things, and even enthusiastic driving would only get it down to about 24mpg. Normal would be 27mpp. So you are drinking fuel 50% faster than a 20VT.
Chris, work out your actual MPG, as fuel gauges and stuff can be unreliable. :)

new air filters can see big diffrence also correct tyre presures

how do I calculate my MPG?

im getting the same sorta thing that ryan said. im n ot running Vpower though, not gonna waste my money on petrol that wont last any longer :p rather get it cheaper(y)

Think my tyres are fine, will have a check. will also have a peek at the air filter, although I do plan to replace it with a sports filter anyway.

see I havent got a clue what could be suspect. the car runs and drives perfect bar the clutch juddering! Of course i did mention the hole in the exhaust but im going to get this sorted when it goes in for the clutch! Maybe get a custom cat back system done (y)

My wallet is going to be sooooooo much lighter

Think of the potential fuel savings (y) If the hole in the exhaust os towards the lambda sensor then it won't be helping - my 1.2 loses about 10mpg when there's a hole in the frontpipe :bang:

I fill my tank up to travel oop north once a month, travelling at 55mph i get about 500 miles per tank, 50 litre i believe, which i think is about 38 ish mpg.

Mines a 1.6 16v, and the round trip oop north and back is about 680 miles.

The first time i took it up north the mpg was worse than coming back because while i was up north i had the car serviced (£80 which wasnt bad). It certainly pays to keep it in tip top condition ;)

I have recently bought a Cinquecento. Got to be good on fuel you would think?
It does 37mpg!!!!!! I am gutted as the 'G' reg Nissan Micra I had to scrap did 50mpg!!!!
I had read on sites that the cinquecento should do 50-60mpg. My car is a P reg and has only done 46,676 miles. I will do the checks that Dave suggests (thanks Dave).
Any other suggestions?
Desperate and poor!!
