My car is looking appauling, its never been to a drive thru in its life and been on a jet wash by me twice to mainly clean the underbody and sills.

Used a variety of techniques but none seem to have taken all though's horrible swirls out.

Anyone got a solution?? As short of getting it done proffesionally with a wagging oscillating thing, I don't know:confused:

car is a green mk1 punto, and the paint doesn't appear to have lacquer!!! just comes off everywhere!

If theres no laquer then you have a problem as you would need to use a buffer to get the swirls out(providing there not too deep) but the buffer is likley to take off the paint if theres no laquer..,,

The best way to do it is to machine polish it. I did my car a few weeks back to get the swirls out before I sell it. I used some 3M Finesse on it which did a fantastic job. There were a few scuffs which came out with a little bit of G3. However, the equipment to do it is expensive, in fact more than a bodyshop would charge for a buff over, so your best bet is to ask one how much they will charge...

I would assume the car has been painted in a solid colour like 2K paint if it is not laquered. Common practice for non-metallic paints.

Need to be careful with rotary buffers as you can do more harm than good if you haven't used one before, especially with the cheaper ones with little or no speed control. Your best bet would be to have a look over at http://www.detailingworld.co.uk and it will really open your eyes on how to care for your car and will help you understand where your swirls are coming from. There are some very talented guys on there and if you put up a post with your location I'm sure there will be someone near to you who could help you out.
You will also find that a lot of cars there that are in most need of proper detailing are those which have been machine polished by bodyshops - a large number of which do not seem to have a clue. If I was closer to you I would have been glad to help you out.
