f**k,

Bought a Sporting Box (Cinq if yu cant guess:D) with a 3" red stripe on it.

Saw a 6" key scratch on it, thought nothing of it (cant cost a lot to remove:)). Removed stripe...f'in scratch only goes from front of driver's door to nearly tailgate!

Quoted £120 - £150 for respray. Not happy.
Scratch doesnt penetrate primer at all, so im going to try an build up a paint layer in it and blend it in.

Ideas? Cos i'm not really willing to shell £120 for a scratch!

Well, Im using a Halfrauds paint chip and thing removal effort.

Its highbuild primer with a canister of topcoat, appears to be working nicely, just testing on a smaller scratch

Plan is to paint scratch with topcoat until level as original paintwork, then TCut that.

I used to work in a bodyshop & we tried this technique on a couple of cars, its works ok..... If you are patient!!!

1)Clean the scratch with something like white spirit & leave it to dry naturally.
2)As carefully as possible touch in the scratch with a touch up pen/paint, wipe off as much excess as possible from around the scratch but not in it.
3)Leave the paint to fully harden 24-48 hrs.
4)Then with 2000-1500 grit (1000 if ur brave) wet & dry sandpaper on a block (the block is essential!) start to flatten the paint in the scratch & surrounding area (use plenty of water & add a bit of fairy liquid).
5)If you are carefull enough you should be able to flatten the paint in the scratch to the same level as on the rest of the panel (this is why you need the block to get a flat surface).
6)Wash the panel off with plenty of clean water.
7)If you have access to an electric polisher, use it carefully to buff the paintwork up to a shiny finish. If you cant get a polisher use a good cutting agent (t-cut or better) & give it plenty of elbow grease!
8)Hopefully all things going well, you should have a nice shiny panel with no scratch evident. Even if the touch up paint isnt a perfect match you shouldnt be able to see the scratch until you get almost close enough to lick the panel!!:D

Cinquecento............Its not the size its how you use it!

Did something like that, sorted fine.

I just painted it up to over the scratch level with paint, afeter rubbing down lightly with meths, left to dry for a day, attacked with P1500 wet wet+dry, cleaned it and TCutted till my cows came back!

I wasnt that patient, just painted one day, forgot about it, did the rest in my lunch hour and breaks at work on Sat (2hrs total!)

...Gone! Dead chuffed.:D

Pity my exhaust is nearly falling off.

Oh, any idea If I could extend this to cover a larger area - eg: a lock....because Im going to have to delock the boot out of necessity!

lol well once my cinq gets taken away i'll know of a cinq at a scrappie with brand new zorst :p

Now written off Cinquecento Sporting,
and yes it was indeed Broom Yellow :(

Dont worry, the poppy coral lives on for another car :p

It wouldnt really work on a larger area because the paint would have to be either near on perfect match, or really well blended.

Oh i see...

Well saw today that I hadnt quite done all of the scratch. Time for another go!
