Masking off detail

I've got some raised detail on the engine cam cover to paint.. What's the best way to stop paint getting onto the lower parts? The gaps between the detail are too narrow to use masking tape. Help?

Re: Masking off detail

Could try washing up liquid in the lowered bits as the paint will just sit on it and wash away with the liquid, or so the theory goes. Can you not get any masking tape in at all and cut it to shape?

Could still get on the lower parts though, unless you paint it and hold a cloth/tissue close to the brush?

Re: Masking off detail

Got to paint on the detail by brush and not a chance for masking tape.

Re: Masking off detail

Looks like it's a steady hand, tongue out of mouth, cloth at the ready procedure then.
