hi all, last night i came out of work (around 4am) only to find that my car had been broken into. a screw driver was used to force the lock open (check out pictures below). the w****r(s) went through the glove box but found nothing. (CD player was in the side compartment of the driver door :D )

I have since managed to lock the door from inside (but now its permanently locked and i can only get in from the passenger side)

Does anyone have clue how much it'll cost to replace or repair this? I'm pretty sure the whole lock will need replacing though.

Re: C**ts put a f*****g screwdriver through my keyhole!

right so this is the drivers side yes? if so i would buy a lock from scrappy and then swap them round so the drivers works with normal key and the passenger has another key, then if its an sx i would buy the meta r/l :)

i would buy an alarm, or what i have done to my sisters, just got stickers with a led so looks like an alarm, her car hasnt been broken into with alpine fully on show so it might of worked, whos to know? lol

hi mate sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel probs worse cos my speakers went walkies from mine, but the c**ts done exactly the same to my clio. T ake it u dont have central locking cos if you did you could of just delocked the doors. dont hav a clue how much it is to be repared though. p.s thiefing w@***rs need there heads smashing in....

ah man, sorry to hear about that, the people in bristol are right ******s, my cars been okay but i dont understand how i live in the worst part of patchway...

anyway, lock sets are usually for sale on ebay etc. can probably get one pretty cheap and just swap the locks over, altho my advice would be delock the doors and get remote central locking.

where about was it that this happened?

Does it matter what type of lock i pick up from ebay or will it have to be a punto specific one? Will i also be able to pick up a remote central locking kit from ebay? if so, are they easy to install (the new lock and the remote locking) or will i have to get a garage to do it?
any recommendations on a remote central locking kit.

Ps, does anybody kno if those alarm kits thathave flame throwers attached to the car are legal? :D

By the way, this happened in Bristol City centre on college street (near the open plan car park off park street)

yes, you want a punto lock, just get 1 punto lock and key from a scrappy (for now) and fit it in the passenger side and put the passengers one on drivers side.

then if your someone who is kinda technical and feels upto doing remote central locking then buy a kit from ebay, avoid ones from hong kong, try and get a well known make, so if a motor/remote breaks or something then your be able to get a replacement easily.

then if your a styling person then you could de-lock the doors later on.

OR-

if you want it all original then find a lock set and ecu etc :)

beau_4076, thats the second time u'v mentioned delocking the doors. I forgot to ask you the first time. what do you mean by delocking?

Thanks so much for your help by the way (and also to everyone that posted a reply)

de-locking is when you have fitted the r/c/l and then there no need to the locks anymore, so you remove them have them welded up, bit of fibreglass/filler and sprayed over, so its all smooth.

well on my uno i bought a cheap kit off ebay for liek £25, i've had it 8 months i think any the only problems i've had is the wires between door and car are getting a bit worn.

it took me about 4 hours to fit it but it wasnt exactly hard lol, just time consuming working out how to dismatel the doors and run cables, the kit didnt come with all the mounts i needed so i had to use a bit of mecano (y)

i'm not supprised about it happening in that car park, some real sods down town especially around college green.

A similar thing happened to me but instead of through the lock they went just to the side and punctured a hole in the bodywork, i have managed to get some putty that hardens to cover the hole but does anyone know where i can get some stickers to cover the obvious hole that has been patched up. I have searched ebay but found nothing.

or if you want to keep the locks but not have to worry about people breaking in through them, get some lock plates made. Mine was broken into about a year ago through the lock but i had a set of plates made for them so it wont happen again. Theres an internal one and one on the exterior of each lock. The only way you'll get a hole in there to flick it open is with a drill :)

Or jam the screwdriver down the door jam, and rip the door open or pop the lock.....people can get in no matter what, brick is the easietst :(

best thing to do is leave nothing on show/to steal and have it alarmed and imobilised.....I only practice this idea since mine was done....def woke me up lol

damn right... i've not fixed mine since it got broken into, so havent been using it much, but when i do everything that i can remove is removed when i leave the car... Your lucky with the door - ive got a whacking great holw in mine where the lock used to be!

Delocking is a great suggestion but be careful with what r/c/l u get. My girlfriend has a new nissan micra :bang: and they have no key holes on show, they have one key hole under a plastic catch on the passenger side. Then her Remote stopped working cos she had a magnet keyring and it effected the signal (even after she took it off) She had to manually unlock the pasenger door and climb across until her remote was fixed. Atleast with a keyhole you have less chance of this happening.
