Driver's side window

This is my first posting here, so a big hi to everyone.

About a year and a half ago my girlfriend passed her driving test, so I went out looking for a small car (low insurance/economical e.t.c) and came back with a cinquecento. We've had a couple of problems with it.
1) The rust underneath the plastic washer on wiper driver's side. Fixed with sealant and a bigger, better aluminium washer.
2) The handbrake seizing up, needed a new cylinder. No fun driving a 900cc with the brakes jammed on!

The third problem came on Friday evening. Apparently two lads went down the street smashing up cars randomly. Some escaped unscathed, but the Cinquecento had its driver's side window smashed.
On a curious note, it was a frosty morning about 5:30 am when my girlfriend first saw the car, as she was on her way to work. I assume the window was beaded, but no actual hole in the glass yet. She's scraping off the ice and needless to say a bit surprised when the window starts to cave in.
Anyway she's 3rd party F+T, no glass cover and she's looking for a new car anyway, but looking to drive this until JUL 06 when the MOT is up.

Seeing as I've become expert at fixing rusting wiper mountings, I thought I'd try my hand at doing a temporary repair for the window. I came across a nice tip on here about the horshoe clip on the window winder, used a small flathead screwdriver in the end and it pinged off a treat. I'd also got a perspex sheet which I was going to fit into the window. Bear in mind I'm not very mechanically minded, here is the question.

The 'retainer' or 'the bit which clamps the base of the window so it moves up and down when you wind the window' is impacted with the old shatterred glass. How do I go about removing this component, so I can remove the broken glass clamped inside, so I can fit new glass from a Fiat Dealer/scrap yard? At the moment, I chipped away at the broken glass clamped in there and the perspex rests on top, great(! mabe not) until you wind down the window. The makeshift answer now is obviously, don't wind down the window BUT when I do get the new glass, I'll need to be able to remove the old stuff in the retainer.

It seems to be held in by just one nut and bolt. Trouble is it's a fiddly space to work in and I don't want to 'jump in' and be left with nothing to hold up the glass. Any ideas/hints/tips much appreciated.

Likewise, if anyone has any problems with their driver's wiper - I'll try and help

If you intend to get a new glass it should have the retainer already in it.

5 in my local scrapyard would get you a full SX door complete with glass etc! Can you not just get a new glass from a scrappies for yours, even if you have to travel a little way for one it will not detract from the value of your car if you do.
