Hello.

As you may or may now know, I am a huge fan of vinyl. It's like a whole new colour car in no time and you can change it when you get bored which I inevitably will!!

Anyway, my little 500 came with 2 racing stripes along the side - its white, the stripes are black. It's now about 4-5 years old, and has been kept outside. The stripes I still love, but are beginning to appear a bit scratched with small rips from country lane driving - and something probably needs to be done.

I'm looking at having the whole car wrapped either another colour/camo-esque design next year. What slightly bothers me, is will the vinyl be likely to have marked the paint? Like a noticeable colour change between where the vinyl has been and has not? Anyone got any experience?

It would depend on several factors, age of car, where it is kept etc. Although white cars don't fade like coloured ones, the exposed paint work might have ingrained dirt.

Mhmm, that's what I thought. Someone suggested a good polish might help hide it.

Don't wanna take it off to check though, if you catch my drift!

If it's on the lower sides, then the paint shouldn't be affected by the stripes. You usually only get weathering on the upper/horizontal surfaces.

You might need to remove tar, then clay the sides and possibly polish. The paint down there could be marginally discoloured... but more likely marked or scratched compared to the paint under the stripes.. so the difference between "old" and "new" paint is what would stand out.

If the sides are clean and shiny (well-polished) then removing the stripes ought to be invisible.
