Affixing new number plates

I'm going to be getting some new plates, to prolong their life I'm going to stick them one with double sided/badge tape insted of screwing them one as this can lead to seperation of the two layers.

Aprt from centering the plates and having the surfaces clean, can anyone give me any tips as I've only done the screw method before.

Liam

Re: Affixing new number plates

Surprised they came off Dave, decent double sided tape is amazingly strong!

I agree it looks so much better not screwing (no rust marks for instance aswell from screws) but it looks awful if they come off (a BMW accross the road is like that, although I think he's a drug dealer so does it so he can change plates instantly).

Yeah that stuff is good. Got a plate for my trailer and used the sticky backed stuff. So good that when I came to remove the plate cos we'd changed cars, it took a hell of a lot of swearing to come off and then plenty of work to get rid of all the sticky stuff.

Re: Affixing new number plates

i make number plates at work and we use aliminium rivets instead of screws with a little cap to go over them, looks a lot better than screws and they dont rust. double sided sticky tape is good but in the warm weather it loses some of its stickiness and can fall off.

Re: Affixing new number plates

But surely then when removing said plates you will end up damaging them whilst trying to break off rivets etc.

Re: Affixing new number plates

i use number plate sticky pads from halfrauds. never had them come off before. mine is wedged into a plate surround which is screwed to the bumper so you cant take them off anyway. well without having the nack anyway hehe
