Repairing a dent

Hello

I'm repairing a dent in my boot lid. I've sanded down to bare metal, filled and now primer. However because i have masked off the area it has left a 'step'. When its fully dried can this be sanded flush to the existing paint work? What grade is best and wet or dry sanding? Thanks. Phil

What I'd be inclined to use is a rubbing compound & drill with mop attachment.

Thanks for your reply. The primer i used has actually left a smooth finish but i just need to blend it in. I've used a white primer and the car is a dark red. Would this be ok or does it need a darker primer? I hope you say its ok! Thanks Phil

Yep, blend in primer, clean area well, then colour coats, blend in again, then lacquer coats. Obviously you'll leave adequate time between stages.

Just to add in an ideal world the whole boot lid should be done for a good finish.....Plan B perhaps if things go pear shaped.

The instructions on the tin say to leave for 24 hours to harden. Should i go by this or do you recommend a different timescale?
If it does go pear shaped my plan B is to go to a bodyshop and get it done by a pro! Phil

Back in the day this was half the fun for me Plus the fact money was tight.

Very much older now & although the spark is still there. The head says 21, sadly the body doesn't

Well this is my first time attempting this! I thought i would give it a go and see how it turns out. It will get done, just depends on how much its going to cost. The bonnet needs a respray as its riddled with stone chips but i am not doing that one. Thats one for the pros! Phil
