Window Tinting

Hey All,

Anyone live near sutton in greater london who can tint car windows? My local tinting company wants £250 to fully tint it and I want to pay about £150.

I will pay anyone £150 to tint my car, which must include the cost of the tinting film but any money left left over can be kept. I will pay for the film up front but will only pay the rest of the money once the car is tinted to a good standard (no bubbles or peeling).

Any takers???

Was your local "Autoshades"? - thats where i got mine done, £200.

TBH, its probably worth the extra, as they give a lifetime warranty etc with it, so you're covered if later on it starts to peel off...

Yeah but as I am a student even £200 is expensive to me! I have only had the car for 3 months and have already spent over £700 on modding it, so if I can save money on this for other mods I will.

Exactly, but you are not moaning about spending £150/£200 on window tints

Cops and vosa have had a huge clamp down on tints. Its illegal for a company to tint the front side windows now, at all. And if the vehicle is in an accident and it has tints on the frint side windows then you can into a load of trouble. Police been pulling loads of people in here and making people remove it or they sometimes get a 10 day notice then they gotta go back to copshop and show that tint has been removed. I wouldnt bother getting it done as it looks well stupid just on the back windows, unless you wanna make your car look like a van.

Thanks for letting me know, pretty pointless then. I think the car will look "ok" without tints, just woulda been a nice feature

i am sure u can still tint the front sides, but they have to let at least 70% of the light through, so light smoke is the most u can go... when did they pass a law saying tints were illegal full stop? i remember bein told it was gonna happen, but dont remember it actually happenin

Law come in March 2004. Mine had light smoke and when the police tested it even light smoke only allowed 30% of light through. They then test again with the tints removed. Mine was allowing 81% of light through with no tint film as they are tinted standard anyway. Mates Clio only jus passed the test by 2% and his didnt even have tints fitted jus the standard tint in the glass so really you cant fit any film to the front side windows. All the boys been done down here and a car dont look right with only the rears tinted. They been nicking everyone not just boy racer cars so its well inforce here.

Was told at Dealers that its now Law all new 05 Models are by law not allowed to be tinted my panda has a light blue tint as standard on all windows going to use money n get good pair off presription sunglasses instead

i did my windows myself using the rolls of tint like the ones halfords sell i think they came out very good. what you guys think?

I thought its minimum 80% VLT (eg: 20% light smoke tint) on anything forward of the B-Pillar? Most manufacturers tint their windows to that anyway, so adding more tint film wont help...

my mates a traffic copper and he said its actually illegal to have any tint on front drivers/passengers windows and windscreen,but you can have rear windows as black as you want to.
