Hello

My wife was rear-ended recently, and the person who did it is keen to avoid going through the insurers.

I took it to an independent bodyshop and a Fiat dealership, and the quotes came in from £300 to £425.

The damage looks cosmetic - some scrapes, so the person who hit our car doesn't believe the garages.

She's arranging for her brother-in-law to take a look at it as he's apparently a bodyshop operator himself.

Is this a reasonable price range? Both garages said that there was bent steel under the rear bumper.

We drive a 2005 Fiat Panda Eleganza.

Thanks for any replies!

Either he beleaves the garage or you go to his insurance (y)

I had a VERY low speed impact at work(into another car) in a 94'astra and the front pannel bent qwite abit and headlights couldnt be alined correctly at the MOT till the front pannel was replaced. Consequently the car was scraped.

Yeah, I'm starting to think it may be best to go through the insurers just in case any other problems related to the accident come up in the future...

We've found our insurers a pain to deal with in the past, although they've done what we've asled eventually, so we're not looking forward to having to go through the same song and dance again.

Regardless of us not being at fault, I imagine our insurance rates will go up... :(
