Ive got a 1 year old Fiat Punto 1.2 @ the mo..

It has been fine for a while as ive been spending most of my time/cash on the ICE however the power leaved much to be desired

So I was wondering what the rough cost of dropping either a 1.4 Turbo or 1.8 Punto engine in it would be, either done by fiat themselves or by a 3rd party?

Its obviously not a small job but I cant imagine its as hard as say putting a 2.0 astra engine into a mini or something..it is punto to punto after all.

Any help would be a great.

i'm sure we could find a buyer for your old lump on here somewhere, as for the swap it should be relatively easy, but i'm no expert.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I hadnt thought of selling it..its a good idea.

How much do you think it would go for (roughly) its done just under 14K.

In all honesty, if you want a 1.8 Punto the best method is to buy one. This may not be the most exciting path to take (I'm old, sorry) but it is the easiest. However for various reasons, people like to do these things (like stuck with finance, the desire to be individual etc.) so go for it.

If you do have finance, I'd check the small print about mods BTW...

Swapping to the 1.8 or 1.4 GT will probably require new gearbox, maybe new driveshafts, a transplant of the ecu and loom mounts etc., so the best option here may be to look out for a rear end write off or rolled one without too much frontal damage and swap around as needed.

Good luck.

I sold the 1108 out of my Cinq, didn't have many enquiries and ended up flogging it for under £100 - it had done 52K miles though.
Breakers are usually asking £250+ for your type of engine.

Its gonna be a hell of a lot cheaper to buy a HGT in the first place mate. by the time you consider all the hidden extras, bigger brakes etc etc.

I wouldnt even consider a 1.4GT conversion as they use different engine mounts, so new mounts will need to be welded in,new brakes fuel pump, exhaust, etc etc your looking at a grand with out the price of the engine and without a brake conversion etc

hate to say it but you bought the wrong car to start with!
even if you got it done, insurance would be a right pain
