I've got a mk2 punto (metallic black), the paint wasn't brilliant when I got it light scratches, which I managed to polish most out, but there was some scratches on the rear quarter that were too deep and I had to go through the clear coat to remove them.

Also some idiot dented all my door in a way which has written it off. Also the bonnet has got stone dents/scratches that I want to respray.

I was just going to find a replacement door and put up with the slight marked paintwork. But I seem to have a very rare colour (colour code 632) and cant find hardly any replacements or only at stupid prices.

So I was thinking of buying a replacement door and spraying it + bonnet, but it would stick out due to the poor clear coat, so I'm tempted to respray the whole car.

I've got no experience, but plently of time to learn.

What do you guys think is best;

Get the same colour mixed spray the door/bonnet, then rub down the rest of the paintwork and clear coat it all (Will this be ok being metallic?).

Or I could get a decent amount of metallic black paint already mixed but not the same colour code around the same price as getting enough mixed to respray door/bonnet, then respray it all.

Or do I get glossy black paint and spray everything in that.

Jesus no! if you've got no experience its gonna be a bitch and look S**te afterwards! the best (and by far the best aggro)bet is to get a bodyshop to do the door and bonnet or you could get a respray for about £3-400 don't get me wrong though, we all started somewhere. I kicked in me bro's corsa for him runnin me foot over- and had to fix it! that was a metallic too.....

I would get something like a wing to practise on first, as I said I've got plenty of time so could spend weeks practicing spraying a panel before touching the car if need be.

Not just about getting the car sorted, I like to learn to do things myself already got a decent size air compressor, so cost wont be too much.

Thought of using just glossy paint as it would be easier to repair any damage in the future not having to worry about the clear coat nor the metallic flakes matching the existing paint.

But the downside would be I'd have to respray the whole car once started rather then doing what is needed then assessing whether to do the rest.

Hi,
I would recommend

autopaints in brighton sussex on 01273 326981
website is autopaintsbrighton.co.uk

They will make up the colour from your paint code or will custom match from a sample. I have had paint from them before. They stock all you require for a beginner and offer good friendly advice over the telephone.

Good luck...
