i am proper pissed off, it was all goin so well.

however i got the fiat badge off the back of my cinq just the other day, an noticed i had managed to take all the clear coat off in the process. so now i am left with a nice dull patch with the coat flaking! lovely.

any ideas how i tackle it without gettin a full boot respray?

was thinkin if i sand it down, primer, paint, then more laquar i could maybe blend it all in with some metalic t-cut?

You should just used polish to get rid of most of the gunk, heating with the hairdryer should have removed most of it.

yea yea i kno i kno  ..... i could of just scraped it off and everythin would of been fine, but i didnt! grrrrr

i am planning on delocking the boot, and smoothing the rear bumper, so i may have to drive round like a work in progress for a little while!

unless someone wants to respray a boot and bumper on the cheap? :D

Is the metalica paint layer damaged? If you were to respray it, I'd sand it back to the primer with a very fine sand paper, and just respary the metalic colour and then laquer it.

i do body work myself alot and one thing you lot seem to forget is that this 'T-cut' that you all praise actually removes the top layer of paint as it is an abrasive so be carefull when using it as with effort you could rub back to primer

if just the laquer has come off the only thing that needs reaplying is laquer and then blending in with a polisher

i will try an get a pic up soon, but u can c where the top coat has com off... it is peeling away around where the badge used to b!!!

i was thinkin of sanding it down, using a primer, then painting and sanding to try an get it smooth, polishing to blend and get it all the same colour, then adding laquar and more blending.... the major point i want is to get it all smooth again!

it will have to wait till after crimbo tho! cant afford the stuff or the time to do it at the moment.. :(

Hi,

If the base colour is not damaged then you should only need to spray it with laquer.

Make sure you get all the flakes off and that it has a good key before applying laquer. You also need to make sure it is a warm place where you won't get condensation on it or it will be dull.

If you need to blend it use very fine wet & dry or some rubbing compound and be careful not to go through the new layer of laquer.

Good luck.

dont b silly, of course i didnt, only realised u can get it when steve told me about 10 posts ago haha.

i am still in the process of smoothin it out.... if i get the area smooth before applying laquar, when i do will i end up with a raised area or should i b able to blend all the laquar in?

well i have still got to get the spoiler smoothed, painted and fitted, get the boot door delocked, remove the other badges, get afterburner light covers sprayed, and get the rear bumper smoothed....

so basically i just want it lookin normal till i can put the time in to do all the work, then i am gonna get a body shop to give the whole back a respray!
