Hi all, my baby punto is coming along nicely now, sorted all the minor hiccups that come with any car of its age, now its time for some rims!

Just wondering, what size will fit on my car? A friend of mine had 17" on his punto, with low profile tyres and they fitted a dream, but when Ive been shopping around im faced with rim sizes such as 217/60/314 and stuff like that, numbers which mean nothing to me lol? So whats my best bet size wise to fit on my car without have the tyres rubbing the wheel arches etc?

:The wheels-not including tyres, are measured in inches. They are measured from top to bottom, straight across the centre of the wheel. basically the height of the wheel. The diameter.

normal punto ones will be 13 inches.

the other measurments are for the tyre.

HERE IS|AN EXAMPLE :) 205/40/17

The 205 number means the tyre width.
On one extreme a 145 tyre will be narrow/skinny like a bike tyre.
Where as a 235 tyre will be wide/fat like a sports car tyre.

The /40 number is the tyre height. Also known as the tye wall. It is the bit you see when you look at the wheel, the bit that edges the alloy.
40 is a low profile.
70 however would be a thick like a 4x4 tyre

The final number refers to the rim size the tyre fits. in this case a 17inch alloy wheel.

have a look here.
