rip off or what?

hes only going to paint the skirts 1st and then fit them afterwards.hes not going to blend the paint in with the car. thats why i dotn understand why so high.and i told him i just want them bunged on with the sealer and some screws under the car. (he suggested drilling holes onto the door for a better fit. forget that though it sounds like a messy job).

the garage is called abbey body craft in cradley heath

its broom yellow sei rory:)

good news...i found a place that will fit and paint them for 150 quid. thats more like it:)

only thing i aint sure is about....the guy who quoted 340 said he needs to sand down the body work paint so the sideskirts would stick.

the guy who quoted me150 said theres no need to get it sanded down as they wil stick on the cars paint work.

who is telling the truth?lol any ideas?

So long as the paint is not badly damaged there is no need to remove it. Tiger seel or other similar bodywork adhesives will stick to it ;)
take some skirts off a car thats had them factory fitted and you will find the paintwork identical to a car not fitted with skirts (y)

what wories me, if you removed the paint back to metal then after the skirts are fitted and painted/finished how are you going to then paint the car metal thats hidden under the skirts.

Ant, how much would you do a full respray for? Can you do the sand blasting or whatever to get old paint off?

Sandblasting is used more on chassis sections. is a method used on classic cars. Is not really used on modern cars because the sand can damage panels, warping them through heat of friction. Also it is hazardous if it gets in your lungs.

most panels are sanded by air tools or by hand. Using abrasive paper etc.

Not much need to go back to metal unless the car is very rusty or if your paint reacts with the previous paint type used.

my cars paint work is fine just like new. i wonder why that expensive quote chap was telling me he had to sand the paint off where the skirts bond off then claiming they wont stick.ok thnx:) i was abit iffy about him doing that anyway.

he just said he would paint the skirts 1st, then sand off the cars paint where the skirts bond on too so they would stick. and then stick them on.

I'm an asbestos survey so you don't need to warn me about things on my lungs lol ;) I'm still looking @ old mini and will be repairing rust etc and need someone for a cheap respray. Hint Hint. Should be gettin one i've seen in my town next week.

how much should i be looking to pay for a spoiler sprayed and fitted to my stilo?

I have a favoured garage but im open to suggestions in the Warrington area
if anyone has any?

Cheers

Andy

1 hours labour for painting, and 1 for the fitting plus materials, they will tell you that the materials cost the earth but actualy cost under £30 they will start at prob £60, and then add gordon browns slice! ask to pay cash! labour is roughly £25 an hour but depends where you go, expect to pay £100 to £150ish if the spoiler is in good cond, Ant!

Thanks Ant,

The spoiler is a brand new fiat one so direct fit etc and just needs to
be bonded on.

Im hoping to be paying around £80-£100.

Cheers

Andy
