basically i can get a free mk1 hinge from collage for my mk2 which the door has dropped was gonna shim it up but out of curiosity will it fit?

bottom hinge

old tutor thinks it will (but hes an engineering tutor)
hint I'm an engineering half wit

it looks like an easy job to change a hinge

the other thing is will my old mk2 hinge fit the mk1

not seen the hinge just being offered

all i know about the mk1 is that its brown :)

Another small thread

I want a nice fuse kit and bulb kit for my car with screwdriver and such nice and neat

Re: Another small thread

so basically the pin has gone missing out of the boot, im sure thats meant to be there to keep your boot smooth when opening and closing.

its just opening on one secure hinge at the minute

Re: Another small thread

that's no boot its my left hand door the pin has snapped off i didn't take door off to remove it because its a 2 man operations one to remove wires one to hold door

the door has dropped due to this its like before i owned the car kids were swinging on it
pic to follow off drop

Re: Another small thread

it should have a pin in buts its sheared from what i could tell
was going to take door off but when doing stuff on own its not so easy
from what i could tell there is a pin what fits in then has thread at top to be tightened to the door part

I shall look for scrapie's which stock cars any idea if there is another car like this I know there not interchangeable from Mk 1 to mk2 tutor said

also is tehre a technical term for this pin to google it by

i would call it a hinge pin

check what the other door looks like to compare when looking for a new one

Re: Another small thread

take a 2 doors off lol other door looks fine nice and tight also the top pin looks nice on passenger door if taking door off i would change it anyways cause its had at least half a year of being a loner

Re: Another small thread

it's simply a 6mm threaded bolt with 10mm head like all the other doors on your car someone has obviously over tightened it to snap it you should be able to remove the threaded bit and replace it

this pin simply stops the door being lifted off it's hinge it does not make up any moving part of the hinge it's simply a retainer

the 2 moving parts of the hinge are simply hucked over each other one on the car one on the door this is were lube is required if the hinge is lose with or without this bolt it don't matter it's nothing to do with this bolt you will need a new door hinge welding to your car and door as it's worn out due to lack of lube

Re: Another small thread

Well i removed the bolt its the 10 mm bolt thread which is sheared off

Guess i will need to take door off and do some welding :( (dad will do some welding)

I don't think i will need a door. just the hinge part probably i can remove the other half off the hinge pin i believe would it be possible to weld a new pin part onto the hinge i can use a lathe with a lot of accuracy.

I shall take door of and have a very good look this week

i know that lot seams arrogant

is it like a double hinge or something?
