Does anyone know whether the system update for Blue & Me works?

I can start the updating.. but nothing actually happens on my phone to suggest a GPRS connection has started. I have a Samsung SGH I300 Smartphone..

What I don't understand is why the Windows Mobile Powered Smartphones seem to be less compatible with Blue & Me than a bog standard fairly old phone (i.e K700 etc)

I haven't had great success with Blue&Me yet.
- Media Player doesn't work for me as yet as per the other post.
- Mobile phone connects iregularly but can't send contacts. (Managed to send 5 contacts individually once and then the Bluetooth connection dropped which caused me to have difficulty re-connecting so I paired again which wiped the phonebook!)

I've found that Fiat Auto have registered www.fiatblueandme.com so lets hope Fiat are preparing a proper support structure for BlueandMe....

I am tempted to start a portal myself (to show em how its done! :p)

What success are you fellow B&M users having? What do you think of the system so far?

In concept, its great and seriously ground breaking! Fiats priorities should be to get proper online support in place, then extend compatibility.

Are you saying there's an update for Blue&Me to be downloaded via a mobile? Grateful if you could clarify for me, thanks.

I don't really understand you. You need a Bluetooth connection for Blue&Me, not a GPRS one. Use a USB flash drive for updating, not your phone storage.

ok, can you post a link to the update please? also, is there any way of telling which firm/software version the car is already running to see whether it's necessary or not?

Apologies.... You know Windows Update on a PC can update Windows via an internet connection to fix bugs and add new features etc?

Well Blue&Me has a similar functionality.... it uses the Bluetooth Connection to your phone to connect to the internet via GPRS to update its system software and i'd imagine eventually add new functionality.

Somewhere in the B&M menus, it has an option for System Update.
I can start and pause mine but dont appear to see anything that would suggest its doing something.

Hope that clears things up.

Try it... I'd be interested to see if it works for you.

Thanks, that's much clearer. I can't try just yet, since I'm still waiting for the car to arrive - it's been 9 weeks so far...

Ok now I got it. So you are saying that once a Bluetooth connection is estabilished between Blue&Me and your phone, you go to Menu>System update and Blue&Me uses your phone internet (GPRS, EDGE, WLAN connection) to get updates? Interesting, and sounds great. I didn't know about this feature. I always wondered what the heck is that GPRS Code in Blue&Me menu. Although I've already installed the SMS reader update (via my USB flash drive), I'll give it a try with my i-mate JAMin (Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5.0), and will let you know. And thanks for the heads up. ;)

Cant work it out myself, maybe Fiat have not set the servers up yet because they do not have upgrade yet?

This is certainly the problem is Australia. Well, there are two problems, one is the dealers in some cities are a long way behind the game with all this stuff.

It is true that when all prophesies are fulfilled, Fiat will provide servers that will, via a GPRS phone connection using Bluetooth, interrogate and update the firmware for BandM. Of course, the hype comes before the product and I don't know of anyone who has managed to do a GPRS upgrade. I even e-mailed Fiat Australia and got the e-equivalent of a blank stare. I wondered for a moment if I had accidentally written to them in Polish. That would be odd, since I don't speak the language.

I think this feature is a little way away. For those itching to do something to the BandM, instal the Eco:Drive software (via USB). It's very clever and very interesting. Google Eco:Drive and follow the bouncing ball via the Fiat site. As for whole-of-system upgrades, I reckon it would be smarter to also do these by USB, but oddly, Fiat didn't ask me...

Hi,

Just a few words about the update... it does not use your phone internet connection. there is a data modem build in to the module together with simcard. the only problem is that the sim is not active. Maybe at some point fiat will use this feature and than what it needs to do is just remotely activate internal sim.

Sorry, but I think you are fully wrong. The udpate definitely uses the phone internet connection. If it has a built in SIM card/data modem, then all the phones out there should be compatible with the update process. But I have some phone which connects nicely via GPRS and after a while disconnects saying server error, and some phones simply cannot connect, and get a GPRS error message. I guess with a built in SIM card/data modem it would always connect. Check your info source again. ;)

Hi, as mentioned before the FIAT B&M upgrade server that its trying to connect to doesnt yet exist, or if it does it holds no updates.

A quick search of the forum will reveal the language pack update and message reader update for you to download from the FIAT site.
